2. How can the Rondo form be applied to a story and to music?
3. What does a Rondo sound like?
Resources
Technology
1. Computer with internet access (for the song link) with speakers for sound
2. Overhead projector
Materials
1. ( 1 min.) At the conclusion of the proceeding lesson students will be handed a couple of
hand outs, and a baggy filled with a pair of safety scissors, a string of yarn, and a small
box of crayons.
2. ( 10 min.) Students will listen as the teacher explains what form is and goes over the
various forms (using the board to write them down). Students will cut out their form
cards, use a crayon to write their name on the name card and to write the correct form on
the back of each card, then hole punch each card through in the same section, and then tie
the yarn through it to make a “bracelet” so that the cards are held together and can be
moved freely. Play classical CD after speaking, while students do this activity.
3. ( 2 min.) Have students throw away garbage, put the scissors and crayons back into the
baggies, and set aside the form cards and baggies.
4. ( 5 min.) Read the story ‘There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Chick!’ to the class.
5. ( 3 min) Ask your students if they recognize the form, then tell them which form it is
(Rondo) and why.
6. ( 5 min.) Now introduce Mozart’s Rondo to the class. Pass out the Mozart’s coloring
page and have children take out crayons to color the page while listening to Mozart’s
Rondo piece.
7. ( 4 min.) Have students put aside their coloring page and put away the crayon boxes
(back into the baggies). Then divide the class into 4 groups; groups A B C D. Have
groups B & D get their assigned instruments.
8. ( 5 min.) Inform your class that they will be creating a Rondo piece through the use of
movement and instruments. Write on the board which group does what when their flash
card is shown: Group A will clap when they see the “A” flash card. Group B will play
their triangles/bells when they see the “B” flash card. Group C will stomp when they see
the “C” flash card. Group D will play their maracas/ shakers when they see the “D” flash
card.
9. ( 10 min.) “Conduct” the class to make their Rondo.
10. ( 0 min) Close the lesson and have students prepare for the next subject.
Evaluation:
GSSP- Can help other students to grasp the lesson in parts. Can also be given the musical score
