sanofi-aventis – France vs. US

The color scheme and feel for the US vs. France sites are similar. However, the US site is more
complex/robust with more photos, graphics and information on the home page. The S-A
sustainability initiative, for example, is promoted prominently on both sites, but in the US it has
logos; in France, just text. Also interesting is that the Q1 results are flagged on the US Site as “A Good
Quarter” vs. the French site which simply invites the viewer to click for more information.

With a Google search for sanofi-aventis, Wikipedia is the fourth entry.

WIKIPEDIA.ORG

Sanofi-Aventis (Euronext: SAN, NYSE: SNY), headquartered in Paris, France, is a multinational

pharmaceutical company, the world's fourth-largest by prescription sales.[2][3] Sanofi-Aventis
engages in the research and development, manufacturing and marketing of pharmaceutical products
for sale principally in the prescription market, but the firm also develops over-the-counter
medication. Sanofi-Aventis covers 7 major therapeutic areas: cardiovascular, central nervous

system, diabetes, internal medicine, oncology, thrombosis and vaccines (it is the world's largest
producer of the latter through its subsidiary Sanofi Pasteur).[4] The company is a full member of the
European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA).[5]

Doing a search through wikipedia.fr, there is different information. Accurate, just different. It is
much more focused on the corporate history and relative ranking of the company.

WIKIPEDIA.FR

continents.

The Wikipedia France site again, has different but accurate information. It is much simpler
content.

Cephalon

Oddly, although Cephalon has a large and growing presence in Europe, with several French
acquitions already made, in France, their wikipedia site is virtually non-existent.

Long Assignment 4 3
Cephalon, Inc. (NASDAQ: CEPH) is a U.S. biopharmaceutical company co-founded in 1987 by Dr.
Frank Baldino, Jr., a pharmacologist and former scientist with the DuPont Company, who continues
to serve as its chairman and chief executive officer. The company's name comes from the adjective
"cephalic" meaning "related to the head or brain," and it was established primarily to pursue
treatments for neurodegenerative diseases.

Sales revenues reached $2 billion in 2008, ranking Cephalon among the leading biopharmaceutical
companies in the world. In 2006, industry publication MedAd News named the company one of the
ten most respected biotechnology firms in the world. Cephalon employs approximately 2,800
employees. CEO Baldino is paid an annual salary of $1,244,600. [1]

Cephalon is a component of the S&P MidCap 400 stock index, and was first included in the Fortune
1000 list of U.S. companies based upon annual revenues for 2006. However, as of end-July 2009,
CEPH was still trading close to its 52 week low, whereas much of the broader market, had recovered
substantially

Cephalon Websites

With regard to websites, the cephalon.com site is vibrant and engaging – to include an interactive
2009 annual report. It prominently displays employees speaking “in their own words” and features
various corporate responsibility initiatives. Their dynamic CEO is featured in an engaging photo and
letter. Conversely, the cephalon-europe.com site is flat, with no interactive elements. No employees
are featured. And in some ways the photos of the CEO/president say it all. Guess who’s the US CEO
and who is the president of Europe. Not hard, right?
