The Hobbit Battle Of The Five Armies: The Hobbit Final Installment The Battle Of

The Five Armies Debuts With $56.2M

Peter Jackson's final installment of his six J.R.R. Tolkien adventures, "The Hobbit: The
Battle of the Five Armies," debuted with $56.2 million over the weekend and $90.6 million
since opening Wednesday, according to studio estimates Sunday.
For an industry reeling from the cancellation of "The Interview" and terrorist threats
against moviegoers, Middle-earth provided reliable refuge.
Aided by popularity on Imax screens, "The Battle of the Five Armies" dominated the preChristmas frame with a five-day haul similar to the franchise's previous entry, "The
Desolation of Smaug," even if its actual debut weekend was notably less than both prior
"Hobbit" movies. In its second week of release overseas, Warner Bros.' "Five Armies"
added $105.5 million to bring its two-week global total past $350 million.
Jeff Goldstein, head of domestic distribution for Warner Bros., said the healthy weekend
of moviegoing was a welcome respite after an "upsetting and so disturbing" week.
"Not only did we do business in places that I would expect, like the West Coast, we did
business everywhere in the country," Goldstein said. "We didn't see that on the prior two
'Hobbit's."
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters,
according to Rentrak.
1. "The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies," $56.2 million ($105.5 million international).
2. "Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb," $17.3 million ($10.8 million
international).
3. "Annie," $16.3 million ($1 million international).
4. "Exodus: Gods and Kings," $8.1 million ($7.6 million international).
5. "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1," $7.8 million. ($9.3 million international).
6. "Wild," $4.2 million.
7. "Top Five," $3.6 million.
8. "Big Hero 6," $3.6 million ($11.5 million international).
9. "Penguins of Madagascar," $3.5 million ($16.5 million international).
10. "P.K.," $3.5 million ($22.1 million international).

Elton John David Furnish: Singer Elton John Marries Longtime Partner David
Furnish In Windsor England
Feeling the love tonight! Elton John married his longtime partner David Furnish at his
Windsor home in England on Sunday, Dec. 21, Us Weekly confirms.
Back in March, the legendary "Tiny Dancer" singer, 67, revealed he was planning to
wed Furnish, 52, following England's legalizing of same-sex marriage. (They underwent
a civil partnership in 2005.)
"We'll do it very quietly. But we will do it and it will be a joyous occasion and we will have
our children," John told Today show's Matt Lauer at the time.
Doing it "quietly" seems a thing of the past. On Dec. 19, John created
an Instagram account in order to invite fans to his big day.
After sending out a virtual invitation, the Brit then began posting pictures leading up to
the ceremony.
"That's the legal bit done. Now onto the ceremony! #ShareTheLove @DavidFurnish," he
captioned a photo signing his marriage license.
True to his word, John posted images throughout the ceremony, including the couple
exchanging their vows.
"I'm very proud of Britain and the laws that we've seen come into existence since we've
been together," he continued. "Having our civil partnership was an incredible
breakthrough for people that have campaigned for a long time through the '60s and
the '50s in England when it was so hard to be gay and hard to be open about it. And it
was a criminal act. So for this legislation to come through is joyous, and we should
celebrate it. We shouldn't just say, 'Oh, well we have a civil partnership. We're not going
to bother to get married.' We will get married."
John and Furnish first met in 1993 and are parents to sons Zachary, 3, and Elijah, 23
months.

Apple Macbook Air With Retina: Rumors Say Apple Will Start Production With
New 12 Macbook Air With Retina In First Quarter In 2015
The new 12-inch MacBook Air is alleged to begin mass production in the first quarter of
2015, according to DigiTimes.
While the publication does have a poor track record with respect to Apple rumors, the
timing does make sense, as Intel's next-generation low-power Broadwell processors are
set to become available early next year.
Monday's report claimed that the new MacBook Air with Retina display will indeed
feature Intel's Broadwell, along with a new chassis that's expected to be thinner and
lighter than ever.
According to the usual unnamed supply chain sources, it was said that mass production
has been "hampered by low yield rates."
With yield issues being "gradually resolved," mass production of the ultrathin portable is
expected to take place next quarter.
The report said the notebook, expected to be built by Quanta computer, will target the
high end and will have limited shipments.
Reports originally suggested that Apple's 12-inch Retina MacBook Air would launch this
year, but production was allegedly delayed after Intel's Broadwell chips were late to the
market.
The notebook is believed to be heavily dependent on Intel's next-generation 14nanometer chips for its unique design.
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, the next-generation MacBook Air is
expected to feature a stripped-down 12-inch form factor with a fan-less design, fewer
inputs and outputs, and potentially a click-less TrackPad.
The existing MacBook Air lineup was given a minor speed bump in April with a minor
speed bump and accompanying price cut. The current MacBook Air lineup comes in two
screen sizes of 11.6 and 13.3 inches.
In addition, Monday's report also alleged that Apple's supply chain is gearing up for
production of the Apple Watch. Apple has already said that its wearable device will debut
in early 2015.

The Amazing Spiderman 3: Rumor Says Sony Cuts Off Andrew Garfield From The
Amazing Spiderman 3 Hacked Emails Revealed; Toby Maguire Back As
Spiderman?
The recent Sony Pictures hack revealed Marvel and Sony's plans of a third sequel for
"The Amazing Spider-Man." However, producers made it clear that they'd want a fresh
start for the movie, where it doesn't focus on the romance as the main story but to have it
as a side-story instead.
Actor Andrew Garfield arrives for "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" premiere in New York
April 24, 2014.
Currently scheduled for a U.S. release in 2018, "The Amazing Spider-Man 3" could
probably look into five actors befitting the role.
According to Comicbook's Russ Burlingame these possible candidates include "Star
Trek" actor Anton Yelchin, "The Flash" star Robbie Amell, "Divergent" actor Ansel Elgort,
"Ultimate Spider-Man" mainstay Drake Bell and lastly the original Peter Parker Tobey
Maguire.
When Sony's Jeff Robinov told Amy Pascal that he wants "The Amazing Spider-Man 3"
to be a clean slate and to start off with an aged Peter Parker, Burlingame thought why
not bring back Tobey Maguire. Burlingame assumes having the actor to portray the role
again after 20 years would "drive a ton of interest from casual fans."
Comicbook reader Anonymous 2918 and Anonymous 15909 also seemed to agree. The
latter supposed Tobey Macguire as Spider-Man would be a good choice.
"I think that choosing him to continue the role as an older Peter Parker would tie
everything together nicely," the user said, adding that Andrew Garfield may be a good
actor but he supposedly just "didn't fit" the role. Another reader named Elmis agreed on
the studio's decision for a clean slate for "The Amazing Spider-Man 3."
However, is against Tobey Maguire for the role of Peter Parker since the actor "may be
too old" already. Meanwhile, below are some fans' reactions on the possibility of Tobey
Maquire as the new Spider-Man.
IGN's Scott Collura likewise claimed it would make fans happy to see the return of the
actor and the Sam Raimi "Spider-Man" movies. It would supposedly also be a way to
deviate from the original story.
