TUNNEL FORMWORK SYSTEM

TUNNEL FORMWORK SYSTEM

The tunnel formwork system is a construction system that is
based on the in situ concreting, which allows to pour the
large elements, the slabs and walls of a structure in a single
time.
With the help of the tunnel formworks, the load-bearing
elements of the structure are produced as reinforced
concrete, the aprons foundations, roof and the main part of
the finishing stages are realized in a conventional method.
The external and internal partitions walls are realized with
the help of the panels mainly produced and ready on site.
The tunnel formwork system allows the pouring of 3 walls, at
most, of a structure at the same time.

TUNNEL FORMWORK SYSTEM

The tunnel formworks are divided in

two types :
Full tunnel
formworks
Half tunnel formworks

FULL TUNNEL FORMWORKS

HALF TUNNEL FORMWORKS

MAIN ELEMENTS

FORMWORK DIMENSIONS
For the half tunnel
system also in force in
our contry;
Formwork's depth 62.5,
125,
250
cm
and
multiples,
Width from 105 cm and
mutiple of 30 cm,
Maximum slab opening
550 and 600 meter,
Formwork's height 246,
250, 256 meter. The
height in question, is
taken from above the slab
to the bottom of the
upper slab.

TUNNEL FORMWORK WORKING

PLATFORM

TUNNEL
FORMWORKS
The structure's
design must be DESIGN
suitable to the
formworks dimensions.
PRINCIPLES
The structure's load-bearing walls must follow each
others and installed in equal openings in order to
decrease the number of type of formworks.
The high rise building's walls must be upright to each
others in two directions. Thereby, the structure can
support the loads in both directions, because of the
horizontal loads, the increase of the traction and section
of the walls is avoid.
To obtain the uprightness of the walls and the assembly
of the tunnel formwork, the walls commencement
elements (plinth) are installed to 10-12 cm high on the
slab.
A special smooth formwork is used with the tunnel, for
the walls constituent the external shell. The formworks in
question must be suitable to each parts of the tunnel
formwork.
The structures with upright angles are preferable.

TUNNEL FORMWORKS
The floor height must be constant on the same floor.
APPLICATION
PRINCIPLES
Low slab is not recommended for wet areas.
The construction method of the basement level's walls
is determined by the structure's pit's section.
There is no limit about the minimum number of floor.
The maximum number can be increased after solving the
crane's problem. However in our country, the wisest
application is between 6-15 floors.
Regarding the plan of general installation of the
building's blocs, the movement axis of the crane's boom
(boom handle opening) is essential.
Climbing formworks, prepared elements or
conventional method are used pertaining the shaft's
production.
External facade walls are realized in situ with the
conventional method or with ready alloys.
The reduction of the differences of the door's
dimensions and types is preferable.

Usually, the basement level's height is higher (for example 4.00m) compared to the standard floor height, and to
obtain the standard tunnel's height (1.40m) the walls are poured in the conventional method, then the tunnel
formwork is installed on the next level ( this floor is also the floor of the assembly and disassembly of the
formworks) with the first concrete axis to start the pouring process.
Restrictions about the reservation's dimensions, shape and number.
The assembly and disassembly of the formworks in the reservations inside the formworks, is a waste of time. For
that reason, the slab reservations must be both in the same dimensions and placement during the planning.
The door on the wall must be designed in equal dimension and placement. In contrary case, there will be a
disruption and waste of time on the work program.

DISADVANTAGES TO USE THE

TUNNEL FORMWORK SYSTEM
The most important disadvantage of the tunnel formworks
is its weight. A crane is required.
The structure's design affects the formwork's dimensions.
The floor's height must be constant on the same floor.
A low slab is not recommended on the wet areas.
The construction method of the basement level's walls is
determined by the structure's pit's section.
More the tunnel formwork is repeated more it is
economical.

The Tunnel Formwork Application Project Sample.

ERRORS OF APPLICATION

The walls and slabs are poured along with this tunnel formwork system,
inadequate vibrator application and due to the negligence of the workers
during the concreting process such a gap has occured.

ERRORS OF APPLICATION

Due to the installations cables and the inadequacy of the vibrator applied, the
concrete didn't hold.
