No plans for

agreement in
New Jersey
Kasich, Cruz teaming to block GOP
front-runner from adding delegates

TRENTON - While Donald Trumps rivals are plotting elsewhere to thwart the GOP front-runners claim
to the Republican presidential nomination, they
havent agreed to join forces in New Jersey, where
Trump is the heavy favorite.
The campaigns of Ohio Gov. John Kasich and U.S.
Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas are divvying up several remaining primary states, allowing for one strong alternative in each of those contests to compete against
Trump. The strategy is designed to stop the real estate
mogul from reaching the required 1,237 first-ballot
delegates before the GOP convention in July.
Trump in a statement said its sad that two grown
politicians have to collude against one person who has
only been a politician for 10 months in order to try and
stop that person from getting the Republican nomination.
Cruz will face Trump in Indiana, and Kasich is getting Oregon and New Mexico, under the initial pact.
Fifteen states have yet to hold Republican nominating
contests, including Pennsylvania and Connecticut,
among five states voting today.
New Jersey and California are the biggest prizes
among the five states with last-in-the-nation primaries June 7, but key supporters of both Cruz and
Kaisch here said Monday there is no deal in place.

Shore area hospitals doctors and nurses are trying to prevent falls
and infections. Theyre trying to cut back on surgical complications
and preventable errors. But, boy, are they having a tough time getting
positive feedback from patients.
Thats the assessment from grades that were released Monday by
the Leapfrog Group, a watchdog organization that measures hospital
quality and safety.
In Monmouth and Ocean counties, one hospital got an A. Two got a
B. And six got a C. More telling, six of the Shores nine hospitals saw
their grades fall from last time.
The Leapfrog Group scores hospitals based on about 30 measures,
ranging from the prevalence of staph infections to how well the hospital staff provides instructions to their patients. It relies in part on patient surveys.
There is a lot at stake. If all hospitals achieved As, more than 33,000
lives could be saved, Leapfrog Group officials said.
New Jersey hospitals the past three years have reduced so-called
hospital-acquired conditions such as infections, pressure ulcers and
other complications by double digits, averting 13,730 cases of patient
