Section 1 - Inspection
1.1 Preliminary Inspection
Immediately upon receipt of the equipment, carefully
examine the shipment for loss or damage. Make note of any
visible damage. Unpack the shipment and inspect both interior
and exterior for any in-transit damage.
1-1
2.9 Stabilization
Shut both doors and allow the incubator to run for 1
hour.
2.11 Stabilization
Turn the CO2 power switch on. Set the display to 00.0
by using the standardization adjustment, and use the
coarse and fine adjustments to obtain the desired setpoint. Release the knob. Turn on the CO2 at the source.
Fill the water bottle and allow the floor pan to fill. The
water level should be 1/8 to 3/8 from the top of the
overflow.
Position the humidity probe so the tip is submerged 1/8
to 1/16 below the surface of the water.

Simplified Cleaning and Sterilization: Interior shelf supports and side panels are easily removable for cleaning
and sterilization. Side panels are bracket mounted and
the floor panel is connected with two screws to make the
humidity reservoir easily accessible.
4-1
5-1
A Door Open indicating light is located on the power module. The red light activates when the outer door is open or has
not been securely closed.
When the Door Ajar light is on, power to the heaters, blowers and the CO2 injection solenoid is interrupted. This feature
reduces gas usage and conserves energy.
1. Turn the temp limit control knob slowly counterclockwise until the alarm sounds and the overtemp light is
activated.
2. Turn the control knob clockwise no more than two units
on the reference adjustment scale. The alarm should be
silenced and the overtemp light deactivated.
The temp limit thermostat control should now be set for a
few degrees above the control setpoint. If chamber temperature
should rise above setpoint to the temp limit control point, the
alarm system will be activated, and power to the heaters will be
disconnected.
Whenever the chamber temperature setpoint is changed,
the temp limit thermostat must also be reset to accommodate
the change.
6-1
Note: To obtain the best results, all calibrations should be performed in the following order; temperature, humidity, CO2.
The LCD digital display on the temperature module continually shows actual chamber temperature in C, and the setpoint
temperature when the temp set button is pushed.
The calibration check should be performed with a calibrating thermometer of known accuracy, using the following
method.
When the setpoint temperature is changed, the digital display will show the new setpoint for 5-15 seconds before reverting to continuous readout of actual chamber temperature.
Since the temperature sensor is located in the conditioning
plenum, small changes in setpoint may result in the desired
temperature being reached in less then 20 seconds. In such
cases, the digital display will not indicate the progressive temperature change as actual temperature moves toward setpoint.
Rather, only the new setpoint will be displayed.
1. Turn off power to the temperature module. Pull the module out and snap it onto the extender module. Re-install
the module and turn the power on.
7-1
Remove the floor section from the incubator. Fill the floor
pan with 1-1/2 gallons of water. This amount of water should
almost fill the floor pan, but still be below the point where the
float level is activated.
Allow the chamber to fill with water until the float level is
activated and the water ceases to flow. Let the water level stabilize overnight. Check the water level. It should be 1/8 to 3/8
inches from the top of the overflow.
If the water level in the floor pan is too high or too low, the
float level control needs to be adjusted. Do this by adjusting
the thumbscrew at the base of the float shaft and, if necessary,
tilting the float mounting bracket.
The LCD digital display on the humidity module continually shows the percent of humidity (RH) and the setpoint when
the RH set button is pushed.
The RH setpoint is changed by holding the RH set knob in
and rotating the knob to the desired percentage. Fine adjustments can be made to the setpoint immediately after the knob is
released.
The humidity probe must be properly positioned for the incubator to perform optimally in registering humidity changes.
To adjust the humidity probe, it is necessary to remove the
chamber floor panel. The floor panel is connected by screws in
the front corners of the chamber.
To ensure continuous satisfactory operation of the incubator, it is recommended that only distilled water or demineralized
water be used in the reservoir. In areas where tap water contains large amounts of impurities, the use of distilled water is
especially recommended.
8-1
8-2
When using CO2, the cabinet must be sealed before the unit
is turned on. Check to ensure that the sample port is capped.
Disconnect power to the unit and open the electrical access
panel on the left side of the incubator. Check the Permagum
seals on the lower right. Also check the orange plug in the
upper left. If these openings are not sealed, CO2 will be drained
from the cabinet and temperature and humidity will not stabilize properly.
When in the Defeat position, the switch completely disables the CO2 alarm. The CO2 alarm and the alarm light cannot
be activated when the switch is in this position.
Connect the CO2 supply to the 1/4 O.D. CO2 inlet located
on the back of the cabinet (labeled CO2). The CO2 supply may
be connected either with 1/4 O.D. metal tubing directly from
the supply cylinder(s), or with plastic tubing. A piece of 1/4
O.D. copper tubing is supplied with the unit to allow for connection of plastic tubing from the supply cylinder.
When the switch is in the Normal position, the alarm systems will be operative, and can be silenced by the alarm silence
push button.
9-1
To connect the CO2 supply, insert the 1/4 O.D. metal tubing (or the 1/4 O.D. copper tubing piece supplied with the unit
if plastic tubing is used) from the source into the CO2 compression fitting, and tighten the nut one-and-a-quarter turn. As the
nut is tightened, the ferrule (conical shaped ring) inside the nut
exerts pressure on the tubing to hold it firmly in place. (If plastic tubing is used, the tubing should be firmly clamped to the
copper tubing piece to ensure a leakproof seal.)
2. Allow the chamber temperature and humidity to stabilize for at least 4 hours. Do not open door during stabilization.
To set the CO2 percentage, turn the CO2 power switch ON.
Depress the CO2 set knob and rotate the knob until the desired
percentage is indicated on the digital display.
Check standardization with every adjustment of the temperature setpoint and/or change of the humidity setting.
5. Connect the CO2 source and set the CO2 controller for
the desired setpoint and allow approximately 30 minutes
for stabilization.
Both procedures outlined in Section 9.13 should be carefully read and understood before the unit is put into regular operation with CO2.

10. Unplug the temp sensor, taking care not to pinch the
plug or removal will be difficult.
11. Carefully feed the temp plug and lead wire through the
access port and into the chamber. It may be necessary to
clear the Permagum from the port. Remove any tie
wraps to permit the plug to move freely into the chamber. The Permagum should be replaced and the port
sealed after the sensor is replaced.
3. Carefully lift the left side duct sheet from its mounting
brackets and set it aside.
Note: The heater will drop down from the mounting plate when
the screws are removed.
4. Locate the temp sensor (#245054 on drawing #3029-530-D, Detail 1). It is mounted on the top rear of the left
interior wall.
6. Clip the plastic tie wrap that holds the temperature sensor wire to the CO2 sensor block.
Note: Replace this tie wrap when the new sensor is installed to
prevent the temp sensor wire from becoming entangled in the
blower wheel.
12-1
3. Locate the humidity probe (#285053 on drawing #302953-0-D, Detail 2). It is held to the float at the front of the
water pan.
10. Carefully feed the humidity plug and lead wire through
the access port and into the incubator chamber.
4. Locate the CO2 sensor (#245057 on Drawing #3029-530-D, Detail 1). It is mounted near the center of the left
interior wall.
13. When replacing the probe, be sure that the tip extends
only about 1/16 below the surface of the water.
14. The humidity controller may need to be recalibrated following this procedure. Make a humidity calibration
check. (See Section 8.8.)
Note: It is very important that the tie wrap is replaced when the
new sensor is mounted to prevent the temp sensor lead wire
from becoming entangled.
8. Locate the CO2 sensor plug (the bottom plug - the only
one not numbered on the motherboard).
9. Unplug the CO2 sensor, taking care not to pinch the plug
or removal will be more difficult.
12-2
10. Carefully feed the CO2 sensor plug and lead wire
through the access port and into the incubator chamber.
12. Replace the sensor with part number #245057 by reversing the above procedure. Be sure to seal all screws with
silastic.
3. Carefully lift out the left duct sheet from its mounting
bracket and set it aside.
13. The CO2 controller may need to be recalibrated following this procedure. See Section 9.14 for the CO2 calibration check procedure.
The CO2 solenoid valve is located in the component compartment. To remove and replace the solenoid valve:
2. Open the component compartment and locate the solenoid valve (#250003 on Drawing #3029-51-0-D).
Note: The area around the blower shaft has been sealed with
silastic. As a result, the blower may be difficult to remove. It
may be necessary to use a razor knife to cut the silastic.
Remember to seal around the new motor with silastic to prevent
leakage from the incubator.
