Site description
A very large reserve (28ha) with dispersed sites shaded by a woodland of Yellow Gum (White Ironbark), Brown
Stringybark and Long-leaved Box (Bundy) with a thin understory of wattles and some grass over gravel. There
are 4 very dispersed fireplaces and tables, a couple well off the road. The dam is empty except for a couple of
tadpole puddles. Kangaroos are common and bird life is prolific and varied.
Originally a water catchment reserve the vegetation has been little disturbed. To the north is mallee and
wildflower heathland typical of the Little Desert. A walking circuit wanders through that scrub, at its best in
spring.
At the entrance to the Reserve is a memorial to Jane who kept her two brothers alive for 8 days while lost in the
bush in the winter of 1864.

Site description
A large site in a mature pine plantation, located on a hillside under the sandstone cliffs of Mt Arapiles.
The site is designed for car campers: a circuit road around the pines with fence posts preventing vehicle
access to camp sites, almost all parking areas slope, few are shaded. There are only two parking spots
suitable for caravans/motorhomes - level, shaded and proximate to fireplaces and tables. No wood fires
November to April. No firewood collection.
Surrounding vegetation is similar to that of the dryer north - low Long-leaved Box, Cypress-pine and many
shrubs. Spring is best for wild flowers - around 500 varieties, notably in the nearby Tooan bush. Kangaroos,
echidnas, honeyeaters and rosellas are common.

An attractive, quiet well maintained camp, if rather formal.
Located on a former thryptomene farm many sites are shaded by 3 large pines, Yellow Gums or young wattles
and a field of thryptomene and wattle slopes up to sandstone cliffs behind the site. All roads are well formed
gravel, grass is mown each morning by wallabies.
The designated sites are generally well spaced with wattles and shrubs between, but mainly designed for car

camping on the open common.
There are 20 designated parking bays, 25+ tent sites, 20 tables, 10 fireplaces (share) and 3 toilet blocks, a
shelter in the "common", limited tank and ample bore water. Five of the sites are in a "gas stove only" area,

Lakeside camping, some at the waters edge with some shade from cypress pines, others on Picnic Point with
shade from a stand of Yellow Gums. Access to the water-edge sites is steep. Rather scruffy camp and the toilet
block is old and dirty, but apparently popular (and crowded) at peak periods because of the good beach. Try
