GENERAL REPORT

Form Tutor: Mr A. KARSKI

Form Tutors comment:
It has been an absolute pleasure having Martin in 7ALK this year. He is an
incredibly bright young man who has worked tirelessly this past year to achieve
excellent results. I have been particularly impressed by his friendly nature and his
conscientious attitude in all his lessons. His reports have been overwhelmingly
positive and all acknowledge the hard work Martin puts into each subject and
piece of work which has been set.
His Art, Biology and Maths end of year test results are particularly noteworthy and
demonstrate the level of commitment to achieving the top results possible. Over
the summer holiday he will need to look carefully at his Geography and ICT in
order to lift those grades to the same level as his other subjects. Martin is an
asset during tutor times and is always well prepared and willing to contribute to
any discussion with insightful comments. He has acted as the form representative
of the past year and took it upon himself to make a website for the tutor group.
Overall Martin is an incredibly impressive Tiffin student, having received over 80
merits this year, and I look forward to seeing even greater things from him next
year. Well done, Martin.

Comment:
Martin is an enthusiastic, extremely capable and intellectually interesting student. He always has new
and startling interpretations of texts, which he contributes to class discussions. Martin's examination score is excellent,
and his CAT performances are extremely pleasing too. He can write with technical accuracy and read between the
lines of texts. He should now spend some time developing his analytical and explanation skills. By using the PEAI
structure more effectively in his extended prose, and enriching description with a more varied vocabulary he is sure to
hone these areas. Overall, an excellent year.

Comment: Martin has made excellent progress this year. His outstanding effort and contributions to the class have
played no small part in this, and he should continue with this attitude to secure the progress he so deserves. Martin's
homework has been handed in consistently and is clearly always done to the best of his ability. He has performed very
well in his landmark tests, scoring amongst the top few of this extremely high achieving class. He is also a valued
member of the extracurricular mathematics club, and I am pleased to see his enthusiasm for it. Although Martin did not
initially qualify for the JMC, he was entered as a discretionary candidate, and I am extremely pleased this decision was
made, as he went on to qualify for the prestigious Junior Kangaroo round. Having chosen to upgrade to the Junior
Maths Olympiad I am really keen to see how he does. Well done Martin, please keep up this excellent start to
mathematics at Tiffin!

Martin has made tremendous progress since the start of the year, growing in confidence and putting
more effort into classwork and homework. Martin is an able and enthusiastic pupil who takes a keen interest in Art and
appears to enjoy all aspects of the work. Martin experiments with materials, taking creative risks in experimenting and
using other ideas. He demonstrated outstanding skills in direct observational drawing as shown by his high end of year
exam grade. He utilised this ability throughout the year. Martin enjoyed his mixed media still life project producing work
of an outstanding quality. He has enjoyed using a range of painting techniques. Martin now needs to develop a wider
colour palette, by practising colour mixing Needs to develop his colour mixing, to create a wider colour range. He
produced a futuristic building out of recycled materials, the outcome was impressive. Martin should aim to maintain the
high quality of work next year. A brilliant year- well done!

Comment on Progress

It has been great to see Martin regain his enthusiasm and confidence in the subject this term and the progress he has
made as a result of his highly focused, inquisitive and determined approach to study has been nothing short of
outstanding. He is showing great potential in this subject and with continued, well -directed effort he should expect to be
back amongst the star performers of the year group next year. Martin has been a pleasure to teach and I wish him all
the best in his continued study of French next year.
Next Steps
To further improve in French your son would do well to:
1) Speaking: Maintain his independent learning routine (3x10 minutes a week) for the consolidation of vocabulary and
a grammar topic in his class notes. This will enable him to maintain a broad range of language and include more
advanced structures in his work.
2) Speaking: Practise the reading aloud strategy (located on the Learning Platform) regularly during his Independent
Learning sessions. This will improve his pace/fluency, confidence and accuracy of sentence structure.
3) Speaking: Develop his use of Opinions and Justifications at every opportunity when completing answers in class.

Comment: Martin has made excellent progress this year. He has revised hard and has a very strong grasp of all the
concepts taught this year. He is willing to share his ideas in class and is a considerate listener. He needs to ensure that
he explains his ideas in full, using evidence to support his ideas to demonstrate his full understanding. Hopefully Martin
is looking forward to year 8, he should be very confident with his chances of success in geography.

Comment: Martin has made a terrific start to his History studies. He has produced a series of Level 6 CATs which is
an above average performance in Year 7. His exam was an especially impressive display with 83% placing him in the
Top 5 of his class. He is a regular contributor to class discussions and in doing so displays a sharp mind with a
capacity for recalling great factual detail. His classwork is always completed and with superb neatness, which marks
him out from other members of the class. Overall Martin has been a pleasure to teach and promises to become a fine
historian. Well done.

Comment: Martin 's year studying ICT has gone very well indeed. He has enjoyed the subject and evidence of his
good work ethic have showed in his above average exam result. If one area had to be named as needing more work, I
think it would be his knowledge HTML. Although it is not much, there are some key facts that need learning, and I
recommend he reviews these. A knowledge of HTML can be extremely useful - after all it is the language of the
internet. After a year of ICT lessons, I think Martin's best work has been with Google Earth, and this showed also in his
end of year exam in which he scored full marks for that question. Martin will find the software package very useful if he
studies Geography at a higher level.

Comment: From the first Latin lesson it was clear that Martin has a natural aptitude for the subject and has
demonstrated this over the course of the year by achieving some of the highest results in his year group. Martin's
understanding of the linguistic side of Latin is superb and he has shown an enthusiasm for the background topics
which we have covered over the course of the year. I have been particularly impressed by Martin's speed with which
he accurately translates the given passages and his voracious linguistic appetite and independent work ethic. Martin is
a polite, mature and diligent student who has proved to have a gift for the subject and I feel very fortunate to have
taught him this year - keep up the outstanding work!

Comment: Martin is a pleasant, polite and well-motivated student who always participates in whole class activities.
He is enthusiastic and engaged with all projects and tasks set. He displays an excellent standard of performance skill
and is able to perform both as a soloist and as part of an ensemble from staff notation in front of an audience. There is
a sense of style and effective interpretation in said performances. Martin is able to identify key elements of music
through listening activities and is then able to use the appropriate musical vocabulary to describe these. He often
scores highly in listening tests, which is a reflection of his ability. Martin can produce structured and organised
compositions using quite complex ideas. These are effective and transmit the meaning of the composition to the
audience effectively. I am very pleased with his effort and attainment so far this year. Very well done, Martin. Martin's
exam result is very pleasing indeed and he should be proud of all that he has achieved. This result is reflective of his
ability. Martin should take some more risks when composing and ensure that he is now using more interesting
compositional devices. Martin is a very gifted composer and pianist and I would like him now to involve himself in as
many cocurricular groups as possible. It would be most impressive if he were to start his own.

PE Comment: Martin obviously enjoys the subject, which is shown through his commitment during the practical
activity. However I would like him to increase his verbal communication during lessons by both asking and answering
more questions. Martin is below the average when it comes to his beep test score. He needs to work on his
cardiovascular fitness to improve his health and ability to fully participate in PE lessons next year. In basketball Martin
has been able to perform skills such as passing and shooting in a conditioned, non-pressurised practice, however
these skills tend to breakdown when the pressure of opposition is introduced. Martin needs to continue putting himself
in challenging situations to improve his execution under pressure. Having started the year as a novice swimmer Martin
has shown very good progress and with the assistance of a float can cover 25 meters in the pool. It would be great if
Martin was to build on this new found confidence and continued visiting the pool to build on his newly acquired skills.
Martin has shown willingness to attempt all of the events that we have covered in athletics this year. He needs to work
on his coordination skills so that he is able to better link movements together in events such as high jump and javelin.
Overall a sound year in PE from Martin and if he takes on board the advice given in lessons throughout the year he
has the potential to do very well.
Games Comments:
Martin had a slow start to begin with, but once he gained a better understanding of cricket I quickly caught up with
everyone else, whilst fielding Martins throwing ability has come on along way and in recent lesson has been
considerably noticeable. He has showed great enthusiasm in every session and has been a joy to teach this summer.
