Textbook: Calculus: Concepts and Contexts, 4th edition by James Stewart
Tools: Textbook, Calculator (if you like), Webassign access (http://webassign.ncsu.edu)
Course Description:
Third of three semesters in a calculus sequence for science and engineering majors. Vectors, vector algebra, and vector functions.
Functions of several variables, partial derivatives, gradients, directional derivatives, maxima and mimima. Multiple integration. Line
and surface integrals, Green's Theorem, Divergence Theorems, Stokes' Theorem, and applications. Use of computational tools.
Prerequisites:
MA 241 with a grade of C- or better or AP Calculus credit, or Higher Level IB Credit.
Course Grade:
As per NCSU requirements, the +/- grading system will be used:

98A+100
88B+ < 90
78C+<80
68D+<70
0F<60
Homework (15%)
Maple (5%)

4 Tests (55%)
Final (25%)

92A<98
82B<88
72C<78
62D<68

90A-<92
80B-<82
70C-<72
60D-<62

Homework will be completed through Webassign. I will also suggest additional homework problems that
will not be collected.
Maple assignments are downloaded and submitted online. These assignments are to be completed as
homework and will contribute to your grade. All information and materials related to Maple work can be
found on the Calculus with Maple homepage: http://www.math.ncsu.edu/calculus .
Test dates will be available online on Moodle. Your lowest test grade will be dropped if you have two or
fewer absences total.
Thursday, July 30 from 8-11 AM

Academic Integrity:
NCSU statement on academic honesty: http://www.ncsu.edu/policies/student_services/student_discipline/POL11.35.1.php.
Your signature on a test, homework, or other assignment indicates that the following is true: I have neither given nor received
unauthorized aid on this test or assignment.
Accommodations for Students with Disabilities: Reasonable accommodations will be made for students with verifiable
disabilities. In order to take advantage of available accommodations, students must register with Disabilities Services for Students at
1900 Student Health Center, Campus Box 7509, 515-7653 (http://www.ncsu.edu/provost/offices/affirm_action/dss). Students
must have appropriate documentation from the Disability Services Office (http://www.ncsu.edu/dso) AND must meet with the
instructor to discuss accommodations PRIOR to a test date. For more information on the NCSU policy on working with students
with disabilities, see (http://www.ncsu.edu/provost/hat/current/appendix/appen_k.html).
