GRADUATION MESSAGE: MAKE EACH DAY COUNT!

Weve arrived at the time of year where hundreds of students are completing high school or
college with their sights set on further education, work, or the military. Its a time of mixed
emotions, for they are anxious to begin anew, but they are reluctant to leave that which has been
comfortable, fun, and relatively protected. Most have enjoyed success in their academic and
extracurricular activities, but they know they must now leave a host of friends behind and move
forward into the challenging role of an adult. Both Girard and Arma are holding their high school
graduations TODAY (Sunday).
Speaking of lives changing, think for a moment of how the apostles had to adjust to huge shifts
in their routines from the time of the Ascension (last weekend), to Pentecost (this weekend). They
had just bid farewell to Jesus as he ascended into heaven, but were told by Him to remain in
Jerusalem and wait for the coming of the Holy Spirit. They didnt know where or when the event
would occur. On that day, they were in the Upper Room when a mighty wind came over the entire
room and the Holy Spirit entered and settled upon each of them, infusing them with knowledge to
spread the Gospel.
This can be compared to the graduating seniors of today. Jesus had been with the apostles three
years at the mostteaching them and showing them how to live. Our young, graduating seniors
have been in education for 13 years. Yet, on Good Friday, the apostles saw their Teacher, God
Himself, die on a cross. Think what that would have done to any of us! But, they had instructions
from Jesus as to what they should do, which was to stay together. However, Mary Magdalene and
the other women saw the Risen Jesus. He came to all of them soon after and remained with them
40 days to further teach them, especially of the coming of the Holy Spirit. Our seniors of 2016
have been receiving instructions in their faith and also in secular education for many years now.
Graduation has come and they will no longer have their leaders (teachers), just as the apostles
found themselves on their own. Todays seniors must ask themselves, Are we fortified sufficiently
with the knowledge needed for life and to attain heaven? Will we be able to serve as examples
for those who are coming forth? Will we have sufficient learning to teach others? Im sure that
it is your teachers hopes and prayers that you have!
Most graduates are faced with a moment of decisionwhich way do I turn? Where will I go?
What will I do? In the movie, The Man Who Knew Too Much, actress Doris Days approach to
these questions was in the well-known song, Que Sera, Sera, Whatever will be, will be. This
equates to having no plan! A plan is necessary for success and the time is now for choosing. The
apostles chose to listen to their teacher and follow His plan. They lived their lives for Christ and
received the ultimate Prize. You have the academic learning and now must choose which direction
to follow. Im not setting a monumental task before you today like changing the world. Im
suggesting an even more important one, like meeting each day with a set of moral values for
others to model. If wed ALL do it, we would, in the end, change the world! And, like the apostles
did, the PRIZE is waiting for each of us. Happy Graduation!

As you know well, your pastor, Fr. Max Biltz, has been absent
from the parish since the middle of February due to health
issues. Thank you for your prayers for Fr. Biltz during this
time. He is receiving the necessary help so that he can return
to priestly ministry. Recognizing however that the parishes of
St. Michael in Girard and St. Joseph in Arma need a resident
pastor, Fr. Biltz has stepped down as pastor of these two
parishes so that Bishop Kemme can name a new pastor for
these two parish families.
