PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Dear Members,

Let me be the first to congratulate you on the success of our 14th annual Chinese auction!
What a wonderful job the committee did to make the day outstanding. I want to thank a few
special people on making this all come together so smoothly--Kathy Kline for her tireless
efforts on coordinating everything, Deb Seufert on tickets, Amy Christieson on program ads,
ticket sales and follow up, Danielle Bevacqua on our program and all the donations from the
Gazette, Linda Rafferty, Kari Walck and Ruth Gallinger for coordinating, picking up, and
making all our beautiful baskets. Also thank you Kari Walck and Maryanne Fechter for
taking credit card payments at the auction, Nancy Askins for selling 50/50, Marilyn
Morreale for silent auction help, Tracy Amin and Cathie Neiswonger for selling tickets! To
the rest of the committee your efforts did not go unnoticed, we applaud all of you.
Preliminary numbers after expenses are over $8,000 raised! We will have a full Treasurer’s
report and details at the May general meeting, including the amount that is going to the NACC and our total budget now to roll
over for next year.
Please don't forget to register for our May meeting by calling Niagara at 716-286-8181 or www.niagara.edu/ce a week before the
meeting. It's important we have your support this month as we will be voting for our new officers. We will also be inducting 7 of
our new members. Also, information about our June party will be available at the May meeting as well.
The June party will have a slide show of our “Year in Review, outgoing officers and committee member recognition, new Board
inductions, committee appointments, new member inductions, best practices information, year in review, results of Spring
Conference newsletter competition, recap of Spring Conference from members Maryanne Fechter and Amy Christieson, Top 5
Business Women and our Woman of the Year presentation. We look forward to seeing you all there! You may not be aware, but
my actual due date for our baby is the week of our June party. I am assuming I will not be able to make this awards dinner, Vice
President Maryanne Fechter will be filling in for me just in case!
I wish you all the best and want to thank you for all your support this year, as my final year as President comes to a close in June. I
could not do it without your dedication and unwavering support as friends and members. I've learned so much about being an open
and positive leader, multi-tasking, mentoring, strategic, succession, meeting and event planning, website development, ways to
grow membership, professional development and publicity. I also have also enjoyed working with our other community groups
such as Niagara Rises, Niagara Networking, and the local Business Associations.
ABWA has allowed me to gain invaluable skills and use them in my profession. For anyone unsure about leadership in our
organization, we have some of the best women to help mentor you and help you learn and grow! Step up and be a part of the
ABWA experience and change your life forever!!
With gratitude,
Wendy Adams

Executive Board meetings are open to the membership and are held the first Wednesday of every month. Please
contact Wendy Adams, President, for information.

Regular chapter meetings are held the third Wednesday of every month. Meetings include networking, a full dinner, a
speaker on topics of interest to businesswomen, and a brief business meeting. Non-members are always welcome!

Business skills is accepting applications for any member that has taken or would like to take a professional
development course. We will credit back any active member that would like to take an accredited course up to $250 for
the year (first come, first served) or 1/2 the cost of their class. One rule of thumb is you must pay for this personally;
the course cannot be paid by your employer. We need a copy of payment, application filled out on the SBEMEF website
www.sbmef.org, class/course details and description, and a page on the college accreditation to be sent into national. If
your company will pay, have them reimburse after you've made payment along with ABWA's reimbursement. It's a win
win situation! Any questions please email Wendy Adams at wastridge@verizon.net. We currently we have $100 left for
anyone that wants to take a course over $100; this is good until the end of June.

*Any members interested in attending a 1-hour workshop to learn about WIN, please email me wastridge@verizon.net.

Historian’s Corner
As you know, I wear two hats in our chapter; the other being our chapter’s Historian. I preserve all of
our memories, literature, press releases, member’s community involvement, etc. I also take the photos
(and recently started taking video!), which I upload to Snapfish and Facebook. If you have anything you
would like preserve for the chapter, please bring it to our monthly meetings.

I also create display boards, one for our general meeting which includes a photo of each member along
with their business card for networking purposes. The second is a “Year in Review” which I display for
both chapter events and community events; it gives potential members a chance to see what we’re up to all year. It’s a great way to
showcase what ABWA has to offer to our women! If I don’t have a headshot of you, please see me at the meeting, I always have my
camera in my hand. I want every one of you on the display board!

As you know social networking sites are a way of life for us; a great way to communicate! If you haven’t done so yet, please visit
our Facebook fan page. This is where I post all chapter events and where all photos and videos are uploaded. It’s also a great way to
post what’s going on in your life, in your career, and in the community. I have included the link to our ABWA-Niagara Chapter

May Spotlight is on

Amy Christieson –President

It’s an honor to be running for President of ABWA, Niagara Falls Chapter. For
those of you who don’t know me, I’ve worked in the insurance industry over the
past 16 years in a variety of roles from administrative, to sales and marketing, to
management, to eventually owning my own insurance brokerage firm here in
WNY. My professional career experiences have helped to shape some of the
qualities I would bring to a leadership role in ABWA: strategic thinking, process
management and strong leadership skills. Most importantly, I’m not afraid to roll up my sleeves to get the job
done. My goals over the next two years with ABWA are to formally roll out the strategic plan, grow our local
membership by increasing our footprint in WNY, develop new networking opportunities within our
organization, create a student chapter, all while continuing to meet the needs of our current membership. On
a personal note, I live in Youngstown, NY with my husband Paul and son, Keegan. My hobbies are watching
my son play hockey, reading and shopping.

Over the past several months, through the strategic planning initiative I’ve gotten to know many of the ladies
of ABWA quite well. We have a wonderful, diverse group of dynamic women who it would be a pleasure to
lead through the next two years.

Thank you for your consideration.

Maryanne Fechter –Vice-President

Maryanne is our current Vice President; she would like you to consider giving her
another year to serve in that role!

Nominations for President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer will be accepted up until our next
meeting, on May 19, 2010.

Please call Nominating Chair, Linda Rafferty at 297-1866 if you would like t nominate or be nominated!

Kathy Kline –Vice President

I am running for the Vice President position. I have been a member of the ABWA North
Town Chapter for 15 years and 2 years with the Niagara Falls Chapter. I’ve held
positions with Publicity, Hospitality, Historian, and Treasurer with the North Town
Chapter and Fundraiser Chairperson for the Niagara Falls Chapter.

I have a BA degree from D'Youville College and a Gemology Certificate from the
American Institute of Gemology. I’ve worked 20 years for HSBC Bank and was a Social
Worker for Catholic Charity Refugee Resettlement for 5 years and 17 years for Tops
Super Market.

I teach religion at St. Gregory Church, am on the Auxiliary Board for the Lou Gehrig Baseball and President of Striking
Ladies Bowling League. I am also the Fundraiser for the Williamsville East Baseball Booster Club.

I have a husband, Steve, and two children, a boy Tom age 15 and a girl Elizabeth 13. I feel with my experience and
dedication I would make ABWA a proud Vice President.

Deborah Seufert – Treasurer

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the trust that you placed in me last year
by electing me Treasurer of the ABWA Niagara Charter Chapter #5037. I am asking you to
extend that trust to me again by electing me to a second term for the year 2010-2011. I am
proud of the work that I have done this year and will continue to protect the interests of our
chapter. I hope to see you on May 19, 2010 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel when the election will
be held.

Kari Walck - Secretary

Hello ladies, I would like to announce my bid for Secretary for a second year. This past year
has been great working on the Board and I have learned so much. I would love to extend
that experience by being your Secretary again.

This will be my fifth year as an ABWA member and it gets better each year. I have been
Publicity Chair three times, Chinese Auction co-chair, current Website Chairperson
and June Celebration Chair and worked hard on the Spring Conference committee. I
attended Spring Conference in Norfolk Virginia in 2007 and earned Top 5 Business
Women of the Year award in 2009. I believe my skills are a perfect match for this position,
as I work daily with note taking and computers.

My organizational skills have also excelled as I keep records of all minutes and member information. I'm a good listener
and encourage members to confide in me if they have an issue. I have made great friends in this organization and I want
to be there for all of you. I sincerely hope I can provide my skills and enthusiasm another year for you as Secretary.
