Ruhr-Atoll
Four artificial islands, each measuring 300 square metres, will be set afloat on the lake, each creating its own island world and each
dedicated in its own special way to the symbiosis of "Art and Science" and the issue of "Energy and Ecology". The islands of the Ruhr
Atoll form a cohesive landscape image and will be visible in their entirety both from the banks and from the Baldeneysee dam. If visitors
want to get up close and personal, there will be boats for hire which they will have to power with their own energy in order to reach the
archipelago, again actively involving them in the project.

From 22.05. – 30.5.2010 up to 350 yellow balloons will be floating up in the sky above the old mining shafts of the Ruhr. At the
foot of each balloon a series of celebrations and events will take place during the 10 days of the project. Further information about
the locations and events at www.schachtzeichen.de. 22.05.2010, 12:00: all balloons will be sent up simulataneously from all Shaft
Sign locations. You can see the Shaft Signs best if looking from an elevated point e.g. one of the spoil tips.
