Course Description

This course deals on the principles of Gregg Shorthand and the application of the Fundamental of Shorthand Writing. The students should in
the process of correct, misspelled words supply the correct punctuation apply common rules of grammar use capital letters correctly
explain or define certain words.
Introduction to Basic Transcription will help the students to increase their ability in taking dictation as well as skill in Transcription word
building and phrasing.
Course Objectives
A.
COGNETIVE OBJECTIVES: At the end of the course, the students must be able to attain the
following objectives with 100% proficiency:
1. Gain mastery in the principles of Gregg Shorthand writing.
2. Acquire the ability to handle simple problems of office style dictation.
3. Enhance their knowledge of basic shorthand that will enable to write with precision for long period of time.
B.
PSYCHOMOTOR OBJECTIVES: At the end of the course, the students must be able to meet the
following objectives with 100% accuracy:
4. Refine his writing style so as he may be able to read his shorthand notes rapidly and accurately.
5. Construct outlines for unfamiliar words under the stress of dictation.
6. Take dictation with speed accuracy.
AFFECTIVE OBJECTIVES: At the end of the course, the student must be able to attain the
following objectives with 100% sensitivity.
8. Show awareness of the importance of learning shorthand to secretarial students.
9. Realize the value of proofreading, makes him aware of common transcription errors, and at the
same time enables him to check his weaknesses in the language arts and skills.
