Trailhead The best way to get to Zell am

Ziller is by taking the Zillertalbahn from
Jenbach (free bicycle transport). If you
drive, take the Wiesing/Zillertal exit and
then the B169 road (Zillertalbundesstrasse).
The center of Zell does not have plenty of
parking.
Trail features The cycling trail through
the Zillertal is easy and flat. The ascent from
the Inntal to Achensee requires a bit more
fitness (elevation gain: 400 m). The route
was therefore rated as intermediate. Riding
time is 3.5 hours.

Route description From the train station,

the trailhead is accessible via the village
road that leads west to the Ziller river. Just
before the bridge, turn right onto the Zillertal or Georg Totschnig cycling trail (route
nr.13). After about one kilometer, cross the
Ziller river on the railway bridge. Continue to
Aschau between the river and the railway.
From there, proceed on the well-marked
cycling trail next to the river via Kaltenbach,
Ried and Uderns before turning left just after Fgen and reaching Schlitters and
Schlitterer Badesee (swimming lake) via farm
tracks. Riding time from Zell to Schlitters is 1
hours (casual speed). Now its just over 2
km to where the Ziller river runs into the Inn
river. From there, the route of Bike Trail Tirol
runs west to Rotholz on the Inntal cycling
trail. Cross the Inn bridge near Rotholz and
you will find yourself at the beginning of Via
Bavarica Tyrolensis (route no. 29). Follow
this well-posted trail to Achensee. Before
that, you have to tackle an elevation gain of

am Achensee. The trail is paved at the beginning, then turns into a well-constructed
forest trail. Having reached Eben (about 2
hours from Schlitters), the route proceeds
left to the church and then across the village
road before getting to the rails of Achenseebahn. Follow the rails until the cycling trail
again crosses the road. When reaching
Achensee, turn right and ride along the
southern shore to the parking lot at the
Maurach-Buchau sports ground (15 minutes
from Eben).
