JEFF BROOKS, HITTING

COACH (1st year)
_________________

The AirHogs will be

managed this season by
James Frisbie, who served
as manager of the
Rockford Aviators of the
Frontier League from
2013-2015. He led the
Aviators to a 49-47 record
and a playoff berth last
season. He was named
manager of the West
Division All-Star team in
Schaumburg, Illinois.

Jeff Brooks will serve as

hitting coach for the 2016
season. Brooks, a former 3rdround selection of the
Diamondbacks who has won
a Pacific Association
championship as a manager,
worked with skipper James
Frisbie last year in Rockford.

Frisbie played
professionally in the
Texas-Louisiana League
from 1998-2001 after
pitching at Abilene
Christian University. He is
no stranger to American
Association baseball in
Texas, having served as the
pitching coach for the Fort
Worth Cats from 20082010.
With the AirHogs on the
road quite a bit this season,
Frisbie will draw on his
experience as manager of
the Bradenton Juice in
2007. A road team in the
South Coast League,
Frisbie led them to a 47-42
season in 2007.
A native of Kent,
Washington, he has also
worked as an instructor in
the California Winter
League and as an associate
scout for the Texas
Rangers.

The former corner infielder

brings plenty of experience in
professional baseball. A
native of Mountain City,
Tennessee, Brooks began his
pro playing career in the
Diamondbacks organization
in 1997. He also spent time
as part of the San Diego
Padres organization and
played in the independent
Northern League, Northeast
League, and Can-Am
Association from 2003-2006.
Brooks was the hitting coach
with the Maui Warriors in
2012 and helped the team to
a Pacific Association
Championship as the
manager in 2013. He has
previous American
Association experience,
having served as hitting
coach for Amarillo in 2014
before joining Frisbie as a
member of the Rockford
Aviators (Frontier League)
last season.

JUICE GUMBS,
BENCH/INFIELD COACH (1st
year)
__________________
Lincoln Juice Gumbs will
serve as the bench and infield
coach on skipper James Frisbies
staff in 2016.
Born in the Virgin Islands,
Gumbs attended Eastern Illinois
University and was a 1990
draftee of the Houston Astros.
He played professionally in the
MiLB, the Texas-Louisiana
League, where he was an
opponent of Frisbie as a member
of the Tyler Wildcatters and
Abilene Prairie Dogs, the
Southeastern League, and in
Colombia and Canada.
Gumbs has been a pivotal part of
the Houston RBI Program,
serving as director of the
organization from 2009-2012
and participating in the
Southwest Regional
Championships. He has also
served as a coach and an
instructor in the California
Winter League with the Palm
Springs Power, the Midwest
Haymakers, and the Palm Desert
Coyotes. His team has qualified
for the championship series in
each of his 3 years participating
in the Frontier League-affiliated
CWL.

JEFF RUSSELL,
PITCHING COACH (3rd year)
________________
Jeff Russell will once again serve as pitching coach for the 2016 season.
Russell, a two-time MLB All-Star, has been with the AirHogs since 2014.
A native of Cincinatti, Ohio, Russell enjoyed a 14-year professional career
that included time with the Reds, Athletics, Red Sox, Indians, and, most
famously, the Texas Rangers. He was selected to the MLB All-Star Game in
1988 and 1989, when he led the American League with 38 saves, and he is a
member of the Texas Rangers 2015 Hall of Fame Class.
Russell has also served as pitching coach for the San Rafael Pacifics and the
Fort Worth Cats.

AIRHOGS STARTER
RHP CODY HEBNER
A native of Auburn, Washington, Hebner attended Auburn Mountainview High before pitching collegiately at Green
River CC. He posted a 1.44 ERA and 7 wins for the Gators in 2011 and was selected in the 4th round of MLB Draft later
that year by San Diego.
Primarily a reliever as part of the Padres organization from 2011-2015, Hebner racked up 161 career professional
appearances and 338 professional innings. The 25-year-old split time between the Padres high-A affiliate in Lake
Elsinore and their AA affiliate in San Antonio last year.
Collegiately, was the GRCC Male Athlete of the Year in 2011. He posted a 7-1 record that year with a 1.44 ERA before
being drafted by the Padres. Played high school ball for Glen Walker at Auburnview High. Walker also coached Tim
Lincecum, a role model for Hebner on the mound. Had originally signed with Arizona State out of GRCC.

OPPONENT STARTER

Position: Pitcher

The Kansas City T-Bones announced that theyve re-signed pitcher Casey Barnes to a contract for the
2016 season.
Barnes, 27 (05-19-88), a 6-foot and 180-pound right-handed pitcher, spent all of 2015 with the T-Bones,
after being acquired originally in a trade during the 2014 season. Although he was on the disabled list late in
2015, in 10 games (all starts), Barnes went 3-3 with a 3.13 ERA. In 54 2/3 innings he struck out 27 and
walked 13.
Were excited to have Casey back in our rotation this year, said T-Bones manager John Massarelli.
Wed like to see him give us 100-plus innings in 2016.
Originally signed in 2011 by Philadelphia as a free agent out of Kansas Wesleyan, Barnes is 30-31 with a
3.91 ERA in five professional seasons.
Barnes is the 12th player (sixth pitcher) signed by Kansas City for 2016, including nine returning, so far,
from 2015.
The T-Bones open the 2016 regular season at home on May 19 against Texas.

MAY 17 GAME RECAP

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The AirHogs closed their 2-game exhibition set with the Fargo-Moorhead
RedHawks Tuesday night at AirHogs Stadium, falling 2-0 in 7 innings. The team will open its regular
season schedule on Thursday in Kansas City vs. the T-Bones.
Palmer Betts got the ball to start the game for the AirHogs and did not disappoint. The Georgia native
struck out 5 of the 7 he faced before turning it over to the rest of the staff.
Facing Carlos Misell in the 3rd, the RedHawks would pick up their first run on an RBI double by Ryan
Pineda to score Chad Mozingo.
The AirHogs appeared poised to tie the game in the 5th after a 1-out triple by C Michael Miller put the
team 90 feet away. But RedHawk relief man Tyler Stirewalt, who entered after starter Tyler Herron
tossed 3 shutout frames, would retire Cody Lenahan and Kenny Peoples-Walls to escape trouble and
keep the AirHogs scoreless.
The home team once again appeared ready to break through in the 7th and final inning when replacement
catcher KJ Alexander hammered a double to center only to be stranded on 2nd base at games end. The
AirHogs left 4, including 2 in scoring position, over the last 4 innings.
The team travels to Kansas City to take on the T-Bones in the 2016 regular season opener Thursday.
Start time is slated for 7 pm. Righty Cody Hebner is expected to be the AirHogs starter.
A live broadcast of the game will be available through airhogsbaseball.com.
The team opens its regular season home schedule in Grand Prairie May 23rd vs. Fargo.
