Anxiety Medicines
Anxiety Medicines
Aconitum napellus:
A panic attack that comes on suddenly with very strong fear (even fear of
death) may indicate this remedy. A state of immense anxiety may be
accompanied by strong palpitations, shortness of breath, and flushing of the
face. Sometimes a shaking experience will be the underlying cause. Strong
feelings of anxiety may also occur when a person is just beginning to come
down with a flu or cold.
Argentum nitricum:
This remedy can be helpful when anxiety develops before a big event: an
exam, an important interview, a public appearance or social engagement.
Dizziness and diarrhea may also be experienced. People who need this
remedy are often enthusiastic and suggestible, with a tendency toward
peculiar thoughts and impulses. They often crave sweets and salt (which
usually make their symptoms worse).
Arsenicum album:
People who are deeply anxious about their health, and extremely concerned
with order and security, often benefit from this remedy. Obsessive about
small details and very neat, they may feel a desperate need to be in control
of everything. Panic attacks often occur around midnight or the very early
hours of the morning. The person may feel exhausted yet still be restless
fidgeting, pacing, and anxiously moving from place to place. These people
may also have digestive problems or asthma attacks accompanied by
anxiety.
Calcarea carbonica:
This remedy is usually indicated for dependable, solid people who become
overwhelmed from physical illness or too much work and start to fear a
breakdown. Their thoughts can be muddled and confused when tired, which
adds to the anxiety. Worry and bad news may agitate them, and a nagging
dread of disaster (to themselves or others) may develop. Fear of heights and
claustrophobia are also common. A person who needs this remedy is often
chilly and sluggish, has a craving for sweets, and is easily fatigued.
Gelsemium:
Feelings of weakness, trembling, and mental dullness (being "paralyzed by
fear") suggest a need for this remedy. It is often helpful when a person has
stage-fright about a public performance or interview, or feels anxious before
a test, a visit to the dentist, or any stressful event. Chills, perspiration,
diarrhea, and headaches will often occur with nervousness. Fear of crowds,
a fear of falling, and even a fear that the heart might stop are other
indications for Gelsemium.
Ignatia amara:
A sensitive person who is anxious because of grief, loss, disappointment,
criticism, loneliness (or any stressful emotional experience) may benefit
from this remedy. A defensive attitude, frequent sighing, and mood swings
are other indications. The person may burst unexpectedly into either tears
or laughter. Headaches that feel like a nail driven into the side of the head,
and cramping pains in the abdomen or back, are often seen when this
remedy is needed.
Kali phosphoricum:
When a person has been exhausted by overwork or illness and feels a deep
anxiety and inability to cope, this remedy may help. The person is jumpy
and oversensitive, and may be startled by ordinary sounds. Hearing
unpleasant news or thinking of world events can aggravate the problems.
Insomnia and an inability to concentrate may develop, increasing the sense
of nervous dread. Eating, warmth, and rest often bring relief. Headaches,
backaches, and nervous digestive upsets are often seen when this remedy is
needed.
Lycopodium:
Individuals likely to respond to this remedy feel anxiety from mental stress
and suffer from a lack of confidence. They can be self-conscious and feel
intimidated by people they perceive as powerful (yet may also swagger or
be domineering toward those with whom they feel more comfortable).
Taking on responsibility can cause a deep anxiety and fear of failure,
although the person usually does well, once started on a task.
Claustrophobia, irritability, digestive upsets with gas and bloating, and a
craving for sweets are often seen when this remedy is needed.
Natrum muriaticum:
Deep emotions and a self-protective shyness can make these people seem
reserved, aloof, and private. Even when feeling lonely, they tend to stay
away from social situations, not knowing what to say or do. (Inhibitions
sometimes leave completely if they turn to alcohol, which makes them feel
embarrassed afterwards.) Easily hurt and offended, they can brood, bear
grudges, dwell on unhappy feelings, and isolate themselvesrefusing
consolation even when they want it. However, they are often sympathetic
listeners to other peoples problems. Claustrophobia, anxiety at night (with
fears of robbers or intruders), migraines, and insomnia are often seen when
this remedy is needed.
Phosphorus:
People who need this remedy are openhearted, imaginative, excitable, easily
startled, and full of intense and vivid fears. Strong anxiety can be triggered
by thinking of almost anything. Nervous and sensitive to others, they can
overextend themselves with sympathy to the point of feeling exhausted and
"spaced out" or even getting ill. They want a lot of company and
reassurance, often feeling better from conversation or a back-rub. Easy
flushing of the face, palpitations, thirst, and a strong desire for cold,
refreshing foods are other indications for Phosphorus.
Pulsatilla:
People who need this remedy often express anxiety as insecurity and
clinginess, with a need for constant support and comforting. The person
may be moody, tearful, whiny, even emotionally childish. (Pulsatilla is a very
useful remedy for children.) Getting too warm or being in a stuffy room
often increases anxiety. Fresh air and gentle exercise often bring relief.
Anxiety around the time of hormonal changes (puberty, menstrual periods,
or menopause) often is helped with Pulsatilla.
Silicea :
People who need this remedy are capable and serious, yet are also nervous,
shy, and subject to bouts of temporary loss of confidence. Anxiety can be
extreme when they are faced with a public appearance, interview,
examination, or any new job or task. Worry and overwork can bring on
headaches, difficulty concentrating, and states of exhaustion,
They feel better in company but become critical of others and controlling in behaviour. They are
usually overly neat and tidy, chilly and better for warmth.
Remember: Anxiety about health, security, the future; perfectionists; critical; chilly; desire
company.

company. As a result, those who need Phosphorus are generally sensitive, sociable and friendly.

and sounds. Vivid imaginations. Highly suggestible and highly empathic. Phosphorus types
generally enjoy cold drinks, sweets (especially chocolate), ice cream and spicy food.

pain. Also useful in some burns (first degree burns), allergic reactions such as angioneurotic
edema, and acute cystitis (should be distiguished from Cantharis). Symptoms should generally fit
the following picture: Edematous swellings (puffing up) , skin red and shiny (but more pinkish,
not bright red like Belladonna), burning and stinging pains, restlessness, thirstlessness, soreness,
intolerance of heat and the slightest touch. Any disorder where there is serous inflammation:

and around 4-6pm.
ARNICA: ALL PHYSICAL PAIN AND TRAUMA from accidents, bruising, muscle strain,
joint injuries, broken bones. Tooth extractions, gum pain. Physical over exertion. Mental anxiety
from trauma. Arnica montana - It's the main remedy for accidents and shock. It should be a first
choice after most accidents and injuries. Given early it will reduce swelling, pain and bruising. A
very characteristic symptom calling for Arnica along with the history of trauma, is that the
animal has an aversion to being touched because of the pain and may want to be left alone: he
growls, or shrieks, or withdraws as you draw near (distinguish from a dog that is cowering and
seems terrified of you, then Aconitum should be used.) It's the classic response of someone in
shock. Also for any trauma in the distant past: any condition as a result of falls, blows, injuries.
Also for conditions where there is or might be sepsis, like septicemia, as it is a preventative of
pus infection. It should be used before and after any surgery, and in pregnant bitches or queens
before and after giving birth. It can also be used externally on recent injuries where the skin
remains intact in cream, ointment or tincture form: if used in the Mother Tincture () form, it
should be diluted 1 to 10 with distilled water. Better for lying down, with head low; Worse for
lying on injured part.

discharges are burning, yet the patient feels chilly and all symptoms, except headache, are better
for heat: wants warmth, even lying up against radiators and stoves. . Thirsty for frequent sips of
usually hot drinks. Also vomiting and diarrhoea together, so it is a remedy to think of in cases of
parvovirus and other similar infections in adition to the food poisonings. Better for warmth and

pupils dilated; and the onset of complaints is sudden. It is one of the remedies useful for treating
fitting. Pains are violent and throbbing. Rapid pulse. The animal is angry and may be delirious:
dogs may attack without warning or provocation, get overwrought into an excitable, anxious

mucous membranes and great thirst for large amounts at long intervals (opposite of Arsenicum.)
Animal lies absolutely still, not even turning its head or moving a muscle when the condition is
really bad, and is reluctant to move when the problem is less severe: all symptoms are much
worse for the slightest movement. The pains are found everywhere but especially in the chest.
Hacking cough with much hawking: it could prove useful for infectious diseases such as Kennel
Cough, where the cough is worse for movement and when coming into a warm room. Also used
in cases of rheumatism and arthritis with the same modalities. Better for firm pressure, for lying
on the painful side or part and for cold; Worse in the evening: around 9pm, after eating cabbage
or beans, and in warm weather after cold days.

Eczema.
This really needs "constitutional" treatment by a homeopathic vet but is worth trying the
following for a short period (one dose twice daily for up to 10 days )
Sulphur 6C if skin is dry and itchy.
Graphites 6C if eczema is wet.
Worms
China 6C one dose twice daily for 10 days, a break for 7 days, then a further 7 day course can be
used as a preventative. Although there are remedies that can theoretically promote expulsion of
worms where they are currently present in animals, there is not enough evidence to rely on their
actions alone.
Use Petroleum 6C to prevent travel sickness. Give a dose just before the journey starts, then at
hourly intervals up to a maximum of 4 doses.
Use Cocculus 6C for a dog that has excessive drooling or has been sick. Give one dose then
repeat every 30 minutes for a maximum of 4 doses.
Parvo Virus.
The dog must be seen by a vet throughout the course of the illness as intravenous fluids may be
necessary. There are no drugs that will arrest the illness the following 3 remedies are very useful
(and you will probably need to use them all)
1. At the first sign of blood in stool or vomit give Phosphorus 30C hourly for 4 doses.
2. If parvovirus is confirmed by your vet, start to give Parvovirus nosode 30C, 4 doses daily until
the dog recovers**
3.Give China 6C four times daily to counteract the effects of dehydration.**
** When giving 2 remedies as above, do not give them together, but have at least one hour
between each remedy.
To note:
Arsenicum Album can always follow Nux Vomica but Nux Vomica should be avoided after
Arsenic Album.
Calcaria Carb should never be given before Sulphur.
Nux Vomica works at its best after Sun Set
Sulphur: for red and itching skin, made worse by heat. Gums may be red. Good to give with
other skin remedies.
Arsen Alb: skin is dry and scaly, shedding of epidermal scales occurring and accompanied by
harsh, lustreless hair. Animal seeks warmth and shows a desire for small quantities of water
frequently taken. Symptoms become worse after midnight and systemic disturbances include
diarrhoea.
Rhus Tox: when skin aggravated by wet and dog shows stiffness when moving after rest but
moves more easily when exercise process. Skin shows papular of vesicular rash with much
itching and redness. Warmth lessons severity of symptoms.
Antimonium Crud: skin lesions more pronounced on neck, back and limbs, taking form of
papular eruptions which later become scabby, discharging a yellowish secretion. Itching is worse
towards evening and aggravated by warmth.
Mezereum: when skin lesions appear on head in form of large scabs with an underlying purulent
discharge. Sensitivity to touch. Itching rash common over bony areas being surrounded by a red
zone. Exacerbated by scratching and warmth. Should be considered in chronic eczema where
symptoms agree.
Hypericum: suitable for sensation due to external factors, e.g. photosensitization. The resulting
skin lesions may affect non-pigmented areas and appear as reddish ulcerated areas which itch
and have a peeled look. There may be accompanying systemic changes such as jaundice.
Hepar Sulph: Remedy of choice when lesions show extreme sensitivity to external stimuli and
pus is beginning to form. The skin is usually swollen and shiny with a tense appearance. Helpful
in drying up the underlying purulent discharge in those cases attended by crusts and scabs.
Cacillinum: general inter-current remedy which activates the skin, this nosode will be of service.
Particularly suitable in cases with dry scaly lesions.
Tellurium: when this remedy is indicated the skin lesions usually take the form of circular
reddish areas, frequently on both sides of the body in symmetrical fashion. The outer ear flap is a
predilection site.
With skin problems, they unfold usually from one remedy to the next. For instance, skin could go
from one state to another as the healing process occurs and would then call for another remedy
which suits the following process. I usually suggest Newton's Detox and Skin Complex. I would
get that if you can. Or along with a choice or two of the above remedies I would also get
Chelidonium for the liver and Apis Mel. for changes in kidney tissue accompanied by oedema
and swelling as well as Urtica Urens if you want to help eliminate the waste product via the urine
(it promotes urination).

I better understand the situation. It is complex as you say. I think this is a larger problem than
you can deal with of course. Society has to take responsibility. We have the same issues here.
People can adopt a dog, let it run loose, vaccinated or unvaccinated, and nothing is done about it.
I used to jog in a place I lived in Washington state and there was a pack of dogs allowed to roam.
They would sometimes see me and come as a group aggressively, even circling around me like
you see wolves act when hunting. I had to carry a big stick...
I always worried that some child would get attacked by them.
I think you are doing the best you can under the circumstances. I suggest that when you
vaccinate you use just one vaccine at a time, e.g., just Rabies by itself. Less chance of
complications.
If we assume giving just Rabies, then would it be possible to watch the dog for a couple of weeks
after that? I can give you some hints as to what remedy to give for behavioral changes following
Rabies vaccine. They are brief but under the circumstances the best we can do.
1. If the dog becomes more aggressive, attacking or even killing other animals, give Lyssin 200c,
one dose.
2. If any physical problems develop where there is bleeding or the skin turning bluish, give
Lachesis 200c, one dose.
3. If the dog becomes jumpy, over-reacting to sounds, acting like it is seeing things not there,
barking and howling excessively, give Belladonna 200c, one dose.
4. If the dog starts acting wild, ferocious, almost crazy, give Stramonium 200c, one dose.
5. If the dog begins to show excessive sexual behavior, give Hyoscyamus 200c, one dose.
There are other remedies possible. Look at the rubric "Hydrophobia" in the mental section of the
repertory.
