INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS

Industrial Relations is fascinating subject for study, understanding, discussion


and practice, as it covers the whole range of human relations within industry.

Sound industrial relations can only be bases on human relations and good
human relations dictates that human being should be treated humanly which
includes respect for human dignity, fair dealing and concern for the human
beings physical and social needs.

Industrial Relations is also concerned with determination of wages and


conditions of employment.

Industrial Relations and human relations are distinctly two indispensable


factors in Industry, one depending on the other. We can have good industrial
relations in an industry; but bad human relations in the same establishment and
vice versa. Good industrial relations provide the necessary background for
good human relations.

Requisites
In any undertaking, good relations between the management and workers
depend upon the degree of mutual confidence, which can be established. This,
in turn, depends upon the recognition by the employees of the goodwill and
integrity of the management in the day to day handling of questions, which are
of mutual concern.

3. Security of Employment and
4. Freedom from Want.

Objectives

1. Preserve industrial peace and o secure industrial co-operation;


2. Fair wages, good condition of work, reasonable working hours,
holidays and minimum amenities of life;
3. Effective co-ordination of men, materials and machinery and money;
4. Development and progress of industry through democratic methods,
stability, total well being and happiness o workers; and industrial
peace;
5. No inquilabs, any strikes and industrial disputes and
6. No place for regional prejudices, provincialism etc.

How to foster good Industrial Relations?

The employer, the personnel executive, the individual employee, trade unions,
Government and public play a signal role in the great task of fostering and
maintaining good industrial relations.

Minimum requirements for the protection, safety, health and security of the
worker have been made statuary obligation on the part employers according to
various labour laws. Law prescribes only the minimum requirements. That is
why it is sad law is required only for bad employers. A good employer is
always ahead of law.

It is management’s duty to ensure that the workers work with satisfaction. It is


the duty of the management to ensure that workers are more healthy,
responsible and conscientious.

Minimum Wages,
Good grievance Procedure
Efficient Work Method
Effective means of educating and training labour
Good liaison between management and workers
Democratic method of dealing with industrial problems

If the above methods are adopted a feeling of co-partnership shall prevail and
good industrial relations shall exist.
