House Rules
Welcome to the NDT Training Center at SAIT Polytechnic.
Classes will start at the stated time in your timetable. Lateness in class is disruptive.
If you are late 10 minutes or more, you may be marked absent and will be asked to
wait to enter the classroom until the next scheduled break.
Upon the 2nd late, you will be asked to see the Academic Chair to explain your
lateness. You will also be asked to not enter the classroom until the next scheduled
break.
Each late will result in a reduction in hours and will be reflected on your academic
letter to NRCan. Depending on the number of hours missed, this may affect your
eligibility for certification.
Perpetual lateness gives the instructor the right to ban you from your immediate
course.
Absenteeism can sometimes not be avoided but please try to attend every class in
order to fulfill your minimum training requirements as set out by NRCan to be eligible
for certification.
Any time missed in any course will be the students responsibility to make up the
missed hours at their own time and expense (ie: re-take the course or
workshops).
Behavior
You are expected to show the requisite amount of courtesy and consideration to your
fellow students and your instructor. Rude or disrespectful behavior could result in
the student being asked to leave the class and/or being withdrawn from the course.
Veiled and implied threats will be immediately relayed to campus security, who will
call the police as a matter of policy.
Exams
Any student found cheating on an exam will automatically receive a zero. Review of
exams is carried out purely at the discretion of the instructor, and is not an automatic
right of the student. During reviews, students are not allowed to copy out
questions, or parts of questions, for any reason whatsoever. If any student is found
doing so, will receive a zero for the exam and the review will be terminated for the
whole class.
Exams papers must not be written upon. All papers are checked after the exam, and
for every question that is defaced, one mark will be deducted from the students final
exam mark.
Cell Phones
Cell phones are not to be turned on in the classroom/lab at any time unless an
instructor is using this technology for teaching purposes. If a student is found with a
cell phone turned on during a class (that is not utilizing this technology) the student
will be asked to leave the class. If a student has a cell phone turned on during a quiz or
exam, the student will automatically receive a zero on the test and will be required to
see the Academic Chair.
Classrooms
Food and drinks in the classroom are a privilege which will be removed for everyone if
one student fails to keep the class tidy and clean. Clean your spills immediately and
remove empty containers when you leave.
Labs
Disrespectful behaviour to the instructor, fellow students, and equipment will result
in removal from the class and/or being withdrawn from the course.
Regulations:
Any Student that is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, narcotics or mind
altering drugs while on SAIT Polytechnic property or among members of the SAIT
Polytechnic community, or who interrupts the normal business of SAIT Polytechnic will
be asked to leave the lab immediately, and will be subject to disciplinary action as
outlined by SAITs policies for Non-Academic Misconduct. Reference (Student Code of
Conduct AC.3.4.1-Section 10,11,17,19).
Students may only use machines, tooling and material for which their instructor has
authorized and demonstrated proper operation and safety procedures.
Faulty equipment and/or broken or damaged tools must be reported and turned in to
your instructor.
Return all equipment and tooling to designated storage areas after use.
Ensure your work area remains clean and report any spills or other hazards to your
instructor.
It is the responsibility of each student to clean their work area along with the general lab
area during and after use.
Cell phones and other electronic devices (including earphones and headsets) must be
turned off while in labs.
10

immediately.
