lifeguards and swimmers will board the Circle Line Sightseeing Boat at Pier 25 right next door.
Swimmers will take the top deck and all lifeguards and rescue boards on the bottom deck. The 5
lifeguards on the jet skis will also board here as well. At 6pm the Circle Line with everyone on
board will make its way to the start line at Bank Street just 1 mile up the river.
The Course is approximately 1 mile swim from Bank Street-Pier 26 NYC (see map). I will be
hosting an athlete briefing on the top deck of the Circle Line sightseeing boat we will all be on.
Wave starts around 615pm. 1-2 swimmers every 3-5 seconds jumping off the back of the
CircleLine Sightseeing Cruise Boat with the lifeguards going off in between the swimmers. NO
Athletes or lifeguards are permitted to DIVE off the boat!!!

Safety Assets 43 Lifeguards/6 jet skis/boats from NYPD, FDNY, and US Coast Guard.
Course Markings. 6 Large buoys (See attached map) The swimmers will be staying on the
INSIDE of the buoy markers as tight as they can with their right shoulders.
Special Notes: For those who worked this event last yearwe have changed the start. WE are
now going off the back of a boat instead of the water taxi pier we jumped off last time. Do your
best to keep the swimmers away from any pilings or debris you might see. Safety nets will be in
place at the finish.

Emergency Action Plan:

The course has been broken down into 5 safety zones below. Each lifeguard will be assigned to
a safety zone.
Zone Coverage 1: Start -Buoy 1 JET SKI 1
Zone Coverage 2: Buoy 1- Buoy 2 JET SKI 2
Zone Coverage 3: Buoy 2-Buoy 3 JET SKI 3
Zone Coverage 4: Buoy 4- Buoy 5 JET SKI 4
Zone Coverage 5: TURN Buoy 5-Finish JET SKI 5
JET SKI 6- CARY EPSTEIN Marine Band 71
Once you jump off the back of the boat with your rescue board you will be expected to paddle
down with the swimmers and STOP IN THE APPROPRIATE ZONE YOU ARE ASSIGNED.
In the event of a distressed swimmer paddle over and provide assistance. Swimmers can
hold onto any part of your board. BE ENCOURAGING! If someone decides they cannot
go on any more and they want to get outpaddle over to assist them. The name of the
game is pass the body!! Paddle them from your board to the jet ski assigned to you
zone. The jet ski will then bring them to the boat where there will be EMTs on board. If
necessary the boat will take them to the emergency extrication dock.
Use your whistle to communicate with other guards. 1 short blast to get another
lifeguards attention. Pay attention to the other guards around you. If you see them
assisting someone, make sure they are okay! Back each other up!! Use the JB OK/
Acknowledgment hand signal to let your neighboring guard know everything is okay.
After conclusion of last swimmer we will wait for the All Clear which will be given by me. NO
ONE WILL BE DISMISSED UNTIL THE ALL CLEAR IS GIVEN. We will then take our very
awesome team photo and with the Freedom Tower in the background and you will be free to go!
There are showers at Pier 25if you want to rinse off or change for the after party finish festival
which goes until 9pm. You are all invited to stay and hang! There will be food and drink there
some of which will be free and some for purchase.
