After being an anchor in the Fraser Lake

Super Valu will be closing its

Said Olma, We take pride in our investment here, and feel we owe it to the community to provide a food store.

people may be called upon to help others by doing some shopping for them when they go out of town.

This, claims a senior over seventy who started her life here, Is the first time we will be without a place to buy our
groceries. For many years there were two stores that seemed to do very well here. The first grocery store was started here pre
1923. And before that there was a trading post.
We are disappointed that Loblaws would do this. But, were working with the mall owner, said Mayor Dwayne Lindstrom.
Council cant fix it. But we can keep the rumours to a standstill. We welcome positive suggestions, added Lindstrom.
While rumours run amok, and everyone has their version on who will be taking over the store and how it all will be done, concrete
plans are in the works by someone who is a new resident to Fraser Lake.
And if you have seen the work already tackled around the hotel, you would have little doubt it could happen.
The Fraser Lake hotel owner Paul Dhaliwal, has great plans for his property. Although he has only been here a few months, he has
put $125,000 into a new roof and another $15,000 into new water lines. The grease traps had been left for years and not cleaned,
he said, I fixed it by putting in all news lines.
About the closure of Super Valu, Paul says, I want to give people all the services they need. Once my crew get here, we plan to
get the restaurant open by July 1st, pending inspections.
Along with plans to open the restaurant and the 25 rooms upstairs in the hotel, Paul is planning to open a convenience store in the
old bar area in the hotel.
The pub business isn't as important right now as a grocery store. We have lots of plans.
Along with the project plans, Paul is happy to give any former Super Valu employees a job in his new store.
We have work to do, and it will go fast. I know people are worried about where they are going to get their groceries, thats why I
want to get up and running quickly.
Some local seniors wrote some of their thoughts about the Super Valu closure:
...It will no doubt result in other retail outlets closing.
...I am 88 years old and have been in Fraser Lake 50 years, and this is the worst thing that has happened to me.
...it will be bad enough not having a grocery store in the summer but it will be even worse having to drive on the winter roads to
buy our groceries. Property values will plummet.
...I have lived in Fraser Lake for 50 years. It is a great community, but it cant survive without a grocery store!!
...The lack of a grocery store will impact our community greatly. Lower property values will cause fewer people to move
here...less travellers will stop, lowering the income of the other stores and impact future considerations by all levels of government
for grants and help in expanding our community.

Carpet Bowlers take medals at provincials

Several members of the Fraser Lake Seniors Sports Group attended the Carpet Bowlers Association of BC provincial
playoffs in Telkwa in March.
Dave & Carol Harper and John Thiessen won all seven of their
games to take a gold medal in pairs, and Fran Armatage, Anna
Carter & Shirley Mann with Florence Stewart as spare took a
bronze medal in Threes.
We have a very large group in small-town-standards, said
Dave Harper. We have an average of 16-19 bowlers who participate every week. Its not costly to play and everyone puts in Back left: Ed Stewart, George Woolsey, Anna Carter, Florence Stewart, Nina Plowman, Delores Pye, John Thiessen, Carol & Dave Harper

Carpet Bowling is every Monday & Thursday 1pm to 3pm at the FL Legion. There has been an active carpet bowling club here for
over 30 years Or that would be my guess, says Beth Woolsey who has played for much of that time. The club owns three 30 x 6
foot carpets and 16 bowls for each.
Its lots of fun and gaining in popularity amongst retirees. The great thing about it, its played inside so can be played all year round.

Designing and selling from a home studio

By Elaine Storey

When youre an artisan, much joy is derived from designing your product. You
observe leaves dancing or water rippling,
children laughing and you envision your
next piece
And whether its glass or clay or ink or
acrylics you are the master of the final
product. You are the idea team the draft
person design squad and the
merchandising entrepreneur all rolled up
in one. And with your artistically-designed
-giftware in hand, its yours alone to showcase and sell to the masses.
And while each piece is unique and original, your artistic skills are put to the test
when it comes to marketing, promotion
and sales.
Local glass and mixed media artisan Marilynn Reyden finds this only too true.

I love for people to stop by my studio,

browse around my gallery and ask questions. Yet I see little foot traffic through
here, says Reyden.

While her gallery is full of functional and

artistic glass and giftware and jewellery,
Reyden is more than happy just to show it
off and talk about the process.

It was such a great fit, said Coastal GasLinks

Community Relations Lead, Jaimie Harding in reference to their role in updating playground equipment
at White Swan Park.
Harding and fellow community relations team members spent a few hours at the park assisting village
employees, volunteers, Success by Six and members
of council to shovel sand and put the final touches to
the new playground.
Jannel Harder Recreation Coordinator thanked those
who made the new equipment a reality. Now we
can all enjoy the park and get physically active along
the lakeshore.
This is the third community project to receive assistance from Coastal GasLink who plan to build a 670
km pipeline from Dawson Creek to Kitimat.
They anticipate receiving final approval with their
joint venture partner LNG Canada in late 2016.

Endako This & That

by Audrey Read

May 4, 2016 and the Saskatoons are in full bloom! Other years I remember using the blooms on July 1st parade floats! Wonder if the frost will
get the blooms? Hope not!
****
One of my wonderful grandsons made the trip from McBride to help me get the bulls organized for shipping as well as getting machinery
washed etc for the auction sale. Thanks so much Clinton, you are GREAT! Daughter Debbie, husband John, son Bruce & friend Dean have
been working like mad to get ready for the auction sale as well as three fellows from Sekura Auctions. Many thanks to all of you!
Trying to decide what and what not to put in the sale is quite a job! Will be cleaning out the saddle shed next I guess...LOTS of great memories
connected with that little building and its contents! The shop is nearly cleared out...found lots of antiques that I'd forgotten we had...one thing
about it it is very interesting getting things sorted!
****
Daughter Debbie & I went down to Marcel & Irene Muellers to see their baby goats...Now, they are without a doubt the cutest little monkey's I
have seen in a long time! They all run and chase each other up and over rock piles and jump & twirl around, they are adorable...too bad they
grow up to be goats! LOL
****
Have been to the Endako Pub for some VERY GOOD meals lately, sure wonderful to have a nice respectable place to go for fine dinning! Thank you Dave & Rose for the special treat....now if we can just get a meal of "NEWFE FRIES" we will be happy! Mandy keeps promising them! (Hope your tooth quits aching real soon Mandy!)
****
Had some friends from Vernon stop in for a very enjoyable visit, fun to talk over old times!
****
Our sympathy goes out to Dave & Rose Simard on the loss of Dave's Mother. May she rest in peace.
****
Got two interesting calls today, both messages as I was not in to take the calls. One "Chief Ryan Smith" from Canada Revenue left a long spiel
that I must NOT ignore this call etc etc and if I don't contact him immediately I had better contact my lawyer! Well, I really didn't think that
someone with an accent like he had would be called "Ryan Smith! LOL!!" But just to be sure I called my accountant and she said there are
many, many such calls taking place and to just ignore them. And, above all, do NOT SEND MONEY! Too darn bad these idiots wouldn't put
their time, effort & brains to better use!
****
Went to McBride for the long weekend. It was my oldest sister's sixty-seventh wedding anniversary. Her husbands 90th birthday, their oldest
son's 60th birthday and a grandson's 30th birthday as well as some others also celebrating special events. It was a great time, saw lots of people I
hadn't seen in years!
****
Bought a lovely house on an acre & a quarter of land, all on one floor, has town water & sewer and is on the edge of town. Very beautiful
neighbourhood with few neighbours and the town cemetery right across the street...so it is bound to be quiet! LOL!! Another adventure about
to take place in my life...just wish Walter was here to take part in it!
Be nice if we could get a few days of rain, sure dry! Have a jolly
good summer everyone!
