Dear Friend,
Greetings to you on this beautiful spring day, from everyone at
the Full Gospel Lighthouse Church in Torrington, CT. This month we
celebrate Mother’s Day! Remembering all that my mom did for me, things I will never
know, the prayers, concerns over the years, the kindness and guidance, I truly am
blessed and thankful for my mom. May every mother who reads this newsletter be
blessed and know that the Lord loves you!
One of the most gracious verses in the entire Bible is John 19:25, which says,
“Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother…” Yes, Mary, the mother of our
Lord Jesus stood by His cross. Everywhere in Scriptures we read of Mary standing by
our wonderful Savior. She is the greatest example of a mother I can think of in the
Bible. We always read of Mary being there, not in the spotlight necessarily, but there in
the shadows, in the background of the ministry and life of our Lord Jesus. Her prayers
and support did not go unnoticed for He always took care of her. She did not always
understand exactly her role in His life because, after all, He was a very unique man: the
Savior of all mankind! No man ever lived that had the life Christ Jesus lived. So all she
knew to do was support Him and pray for Him and love Him. Sometimes we think we
have to fix every problem and settle every stormy sea and be the “savior” when all
along people actually need to find their way to the true Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Sometimes the only thing we can do is pray for that loved one. Sometimes the Lord
takes the circumstances out of our hands and only He can help the person: but we can
pray! Supporting people in prayer is the work of God in our lives. There was no one
better at it than Mary. She was there, standing by the cross of Jesus. She didn’t interfere
with what He had to do. But she stood there by Him. Her undying love for our Lord
never went unnoticed.
John 19:26 Jesus saw her there by Him. She was close enough to hear what He
had to say. Many people tell me they aren’t church-goers, but I don’t understand that, to
be honest with you. Why wouldn’t a person want to be close enough to hear the Word
of God? If you’re physically able to attend a church, the House of God, Father’s House,
I say, “Let’s go!!” If you can’t physically go, that’s another story. But there’s peace in
Father’s House. There are answers to our problems in Father’s House. There is
fellowship with other Christians in Father’s House. There is a kingdom being built that
will endure forever and the blueprint is explained in Father’s House. Our directions in
life, our answers to prayer, the love, joy, and peace of God that passes all knowledge is
found there in Father’s House! No wonder the Psalmist said, “I was glad when they
said unto me, Let us go into the House of the Lord” (Psalms 122:1). Notice they
didn’t tell David to go “unto” the House of the Lord: they said “into” the House of the
Lord. Let’s get into the House so we can hear the Word of God and be blessed and be a
part of what He is doing!
Mary was close enough to hear the Words of Jesus. He looked at her and saw her
standing there beside the Apostle John and said, “Woman, behold thy son! Then saith
He to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her
unto his own home” (John 19:26 & 27). He knew John would keep her in church and
among the other disciples. He knew she would devote herself to praying for the
disciples. He knew she would be a part of the New Testament church that would be
birthed in a few days. John would see to it that she be cared for; not just naturally, but
spiritually. And this is the key: to care for one another spiritually as well as naturally.
John would provide this whereas others probably wouldn’t. She stayed by the cross of
Jesus until the end. Sometimes we must stand there, too. But if that be our lot, stand
with your head held high and embrace His Words and cleave to Him. I truly believe that
in that stand He will speak words of strength and comfort to your heart and He will
provide a place for you! He will never forsake those who put their trust in Him and love
Him.
“Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set
him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will
answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him. With
long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation: (Psalms 91:14-16). What a
wonderful promise to all who trust and love the Lord! How about you? Come to the
Lord Jesus today and stand by Him and He will show you His salvation!
May God bless you abundantly this month and please remember that our church
is praying for you! If you don’t have a church you regularly attend I invite you to ours.
