On Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at approx. 2:37 AM, Jackson Police Officers responded to the
Citgo Service Station at 3541 Medgar Evers Blvd. regarding a shooting. Upon officers arrival, it
was learned that Robert Crosslin-53, had been shot multiple times in the upper torso. He was
transported to UMMC via AMR for medical treatment and listed in critical condition.
During the course of the investigation, it was learned that an unidentified, shirtless, light skinned
black male approached the victim as he sat in his vehicle. The suspect armed with a handgun,
fired several shots striking the victim. The incident was unprovoked. The suspect fled the scene
in a maroon Toyota Camry. Officers were able to identify the suspect as Jerome Heard-36, after
viewing surveillance footage of the incident.
At approx. 3:42 AM, Precinct Four officers investigated an assault with a motor vehicle that
occurred near the 300 block of Bounds St. The victim, Dyress Hill-39, was transported to
UMMC for injuries he sustained. It was learned that he was in the vehicle with Jerome Heard in
this area and there was an altercation, allegedly Heard pushed him out of the vehicle and then
used the vehicle to run him over, striking him about the body. Heard then fled the scene. Hill
suffered a broken jaw and is in stable condition. A weapon was recovered at the scene that is
believed to be connected to the shooting of Mr. Crosslin.
Precinct 3 officers later responded to the 2300 block of Overbrook Dr. and detained Jerome
Heard without incident. He was transported to Police Headquarters and subsequently charged
with two counts of Aggravated Assault and one count of Convicted Felon in Possession
stemming from this mornings incidents. He was also charged with an additional count of
Aggravated Assault and additional count of Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
stemming from an incident that occurred on Monday, June 27, 2016, where he allegedly fired
shots at a victim in the area of Idaho St. There were no injuries reported in this incident.
Jerome Heard is currently being held and awaiting an Initial Court Appearance. This is an
ongoing investigation and more charges are possible.
