Facilities Design: High School Suite


Design concerns:
Acoustic Isolation
Storage: music; uniform; robe dedicated; secured space for each instrument; general
Traffic Flow: easy access, including large doors, to stage; temperature controlled instrument storage outside of
rehearsal rooms; large windows in each slow close door,
Rehearsal Room: high ceilings; proper cubic volume; hard flooring; hanging microphones for recording; Smartboards
in each room;
Keyboard Lab: keyboard and computer stations for each room
Practice Rooms: Keyboards in each room; Smartmusic station
Auditorium: acoustically sound; large stage; attractive dcor

Scheduling:

45 minute small group lessons once a week through all levels


50 minute band rehearsals 3 times a week through middle and high school
Tiered concert band at the high school level
Class offerings for theory, keyboard courses, and non-traditional performance opportunities
60 minute band rehearsal once a week for elementary

Curriculum Design:

Consistency in use of the Gordon Method of saying rhythms then progressing to the 1e&a
counting system as the students
Consistency in identifying notes through numbers
Aligned assessment that gets passed along to the next teacher/school
Consistent rehearsal techniques/etiquette
Consistent technology use
Combined concerts with the Elementary, Middle, and High Schools
Organize field trips to go hear professionals, other school districts
Clinicians, Masterclasses, commissioning works for each school
High School students can help teach Middle and/or Elementary through a mentor program. They
would receive credit for this. Would also help with retention
