Mini Project Proposal: Student Management System
Name: K. Banujan
EP Number: EP1509
1. Project details
1.1 Title of the project
Student Management System
1.3 Supervisor
Mr. R.K.A.R. Kariappar,
Senior Lecturer
Department of Computing and Information Systems.
Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.
2. Project overview
The aim of the project is to implement a Student Management System suitable for
Sabaragamuwa University specially for Applied Faculty, providing flexibility to adapt to
new and changing requirements. This Student Management System is an automated
version of manual Student Management System and using this application means securing
the activities of the Student Management. The vision is to provide a progressive and
expandable information service to staff, and lecturers.
5. Scope
A project scope statement is a useful tool to outline the project's deliverable and identify
the constraints, assumptions and key success factors. This web based system helps to
record the students details efficiently, to find students details by authorized person when
needed and make the university stable with providing reports and facilities.
Offers security to the system and data integrity. Further, provides dynamic way of user
management of adding new user, edit or delete when needed. User log-in and activities
can be traced through session handlings.
By developing the system, we can attain the following features:
Objectives
Effective student record management which means from student registration to till
the time of student leaving the university.
Provide greater end user (i.e. Staff and lecturers) interaction with key processes
through using the student management system.
Provides various types of report in one click (such as attendance details, GPA
details etc...)
Improve the university's academic administration processes - leaving more time to
concentrate on our core activities of teaching, learning and research.
6. Methodology
The proposed system is to be developed using PHP. The user requirements will be
specified according to the goal of the system and various components of the architecture.
After requirement gathered, the system is designed.
Once the proposed design finished, the implementation occurs by using Waterfall model.
Waterfall approach was first SDLC Model to be used widely in Software Engineering to
ensure success of the project. The Waterfall model is chosen because requirements are
clearly known. In "The Waterfall" approach, the whole process of software development
is divided into separate distinct phases. In Waterfall model, typically, the outcome of one
phase acts as the input for the next phase sequentially.
