Dear President, Your anxiety over our subsequent cooperation in view of the noticeable worrisome trends inside the CDU/CSU Bundestag faction is quite understandable. Still, I dare to assure you that the probable CSU withdrawal wont have any effect on our joint work in the European Parliament. The moves of Horst Seehofer set to employ the general unfavorable situation in Europe marked by refugee influx, the UKs withdrawal from the EU and economic recession arent going to have any far reaching consequences despite somewhat waning popularity of Chancellor Angela Merkel. The positions of the Chancellor and CSU are still strong enough but excessively ambitious Seehofer is absolutely reluctant to take this into consideration. The risky venture to promote the CSU/SPD union is doomed to failure; it has no future as a political project. The draft legislation work will be continued in normal mode. As for our posture on the most pressing issues relating gas transmission system in Europe, migrant crisis, measures to ensure European security and economic development, it will stay invariable. On our part, we would appreciate your assistance in curbing the negative influence of Manfred Weber, Marcus Ferber and their supporters in the European Parliament. It appears rather essential for the Treaty on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership to be signed and all the disturbing effect of its absence, already visible in interaction with our Washington friends, eliminated. Yours sincerely, Herbert Reul
