Praxis Core Exam Analysis

Exam Requirements
The Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators Exam is a mandatory test for all
education students to ensure they are prepared with a basic level of knowledge in reading,
writing, and mathematics. All Nevada education and early childhood education students
are required to pass the Praxis Core Exam before they are accepted into their bachelor
level education or early childhood programs at University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV),
Nevada State College (NSC), or University of Nevada Reno (UNR). The passing score
for these tests varies slightly from state to state. In Nevada the passing scores for the
Praxis Core tests are as follows:
Math 150
Reading 156
Writing 162
Exam Preparation
Before taking the Praxis Core Exam I prepared most extensively for the math
portion of the exam. I created an account with Kahn Academy, which is a free website
that allows you to practice math skills. I also purchased the official math interactive test
from the praxis website and have been reviewing with it for the past few months. In order
to prepare for the reading and writing tests I completed each of the practice tests on the
ETS website. I then reviewed the tests after they were scored and reworked each problem
that was marked incorrectly until I arrived at the correct answer. I have not yet received

my official Praxis Exam scores because I took my exam on Friday, June 17th, and it takes
at least 10 days for the scores to be posted. However, I do feel that I did well. I also feel
that the practice exams were an accurate representation of the actual test, and, because
my scores were high on the practice tests I am confident I scored high on the official test
as well.
Exam Results
As I said earlier, I have not yet received my official praxis scores; however I have
received my scores for the practice exams. In Math I answered 52 out of 53 multiple
choice questions correctly. Therefore I received a 98% and, according to the test, am very
likely to pass the math section on the official Praxis Core Exam. My writing score was a
95%, which means I am also likely to pass this section on the official exam. Finally, my
reading score: in reading I answered 54 out of 56 questions correctly. This placed me in
the 96% range, which again means that I am likely to pass the official exam.
Future Exam Preparation
If I receive a failing grade on any of the exams when my scores are returned then
I will most definitely further my studying. I would continue to work on the ETS website
doing the version two of all the tests offered, as well as review the study guides. In order
to study for the math exam I would continue working on the khan academy website as
well as with the interactive practice test I already purchased from the praxis website. If I
were to fail the reading or writing sections then I would purchase those interactive
practice tests from the praxis website as well.
