ATS Technical Overview r1
Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) is an automatic change over system, could be installed in a
power supply system for switching the load either to the Utility or other secondary power
supply such as a Generator for with minimum power blackout with inbuilt over/under voltage,
over under frequency, over current and over load protections.
Open-transition mechanism provides break before-make switching action. The connection
to one source is opened before the connection to the second source is closed. Mechanical
interlocks positively prevent interconnection of sources. This is the most commonly used type
of transfer switch and is used in all types of applications.
ATS monitors the utility power continuously and sends the starting signal to the generator set
in the event of a utility failure/instability. The ATS transfer to the generator source, after the
pre-set time delay if the parameters are satisfy to the set limits. ATS switches back to the
utility power source when the same return and normalized.
