LITTLE MIAMI LOCAL SCHOOLS

BOARD OF EDUCATION
RESOLUTION 16-001
Proclaiming to the State of Ohio a Desire to Be Reimbursed for Local School Funds that
Were Directed Away from Little Miami to Charter Schools
WHEREAS, the elected Board of Education is directly responsible to the Little Miami
community, including taxpayers, voters, students, and parents, and;
WHEREAS, the low-performing charter (community) schools that are outside of the control of
local Board of Education, with the assistance of the Ohio Department of Education, State Board
of Education, and others, has taken the sum of $5,136,345.49 from the Little Miami Local School
District, its students, and taxpayers over the course of six years, to wit:
FY11 $829,181.50
FY12 $964,980.75
FY13 $808,678.33
FY14 $869,260.83
FY15 $834,101.08
FY16 $830,142.99
WHEREAS, local school districts boards of education have no control of charter school students,
financing, educational programming, student outcomes, and student performance, and;
WHEREAS, charter schools in Ohio have demonstrated an overall low academic performance
compared to public schools, with the exception being charter schools authorized by local boards
of education, and;
WHEREAS, the charter school industrys confiscation of nearly one million dollars from Little
Miamis taxpayers and students in each academic year even while the district was in fiscal
emergency -- has reduced educational programs and services to Little Miami Local Schools
students and has harmed our community.
Now therefore be it RESOLVED that the Little Miami Local Schools Board of Education and
administration calls on the Ohio Legislature to pass legislation that eliminates the state policy of
extracting charter school tuition and funding from the local public school districts and their
taxpayers, and;
BE IT FUTHER RESOVED that the Little Miami Local Board of Education directs the District
Treasurer to invoice the Ohio Department of Education for all funds extracted from the Little
Miami Local School District for Charter Schools.
