Ms. Jessica Horwath has been a Spanish World Language teacher at Lenape Middle School since the
2011-12 school year. She has also coached tennis, wrestling and softball. In addition to that, she is the
schools Yearbook advisor. It is my pleasure to write her a letter of recommendation.
I have watched Jessica work unselfishly as a teacher, advisor, mentor and coach to help students reach
their potential and learn life lessons. Her commitment to provide a quality curriculum so that students
will have greater insight into their community is unwavering.
Jessica is an excellent Spanish teacher at Lenape Middle School. She teaches Spanish I and II to 8th and
9th grade students. She is a very creative teacher and uses technology in a variety to ways to meet student
learning needs. She differentiates and employs a wide array of instructional and assessment strategies so
that all students succeed. Jessica speaks primarily in the target language and holds students to the
expectation that they also speak in the target language. Ms. Horwath demonstrates a number of teaching
strategies in her repertoire. She transitions smoothly from whole class to small group activities. When
she discusses a point with the students, she elicits responses that are thoughtful and complete. She
challenges the students in her class by holding high expectations for their preparation, cooperation and
participation. Her teaching style is appropriate as she moves through the classroom providing individual
feedback to students throughout her lessons. Her athletic teams are well prepared and her athletes respect
one another and their opponents.
Jessica works enthusiastically to develop well-rounded students and has personally demonstrated a
balance between academic and other activities. It is almost impossible to list all of the things that Jessica
does at Lenape. To name a few the list includes: Teacher, coach, advisor, building leader, presenter at
faculty meetings, and a member of School Climate Committee.
Ms. Horwath s knowledge of her subject matter, the academic standards and rubrics for evaluation have
served her well while she has been at Lenape. Ms. Horwath effectively works with students of varied
academic abilities and earns the respect of her classes. Her passion for coaching and the teaching
profession are apparent. Her contributions to Lenape are appreciated and I recommend her highly and
without reservation for a position at your school. I would hate to lose Jess as she is a vital part of the
Lenape community and one of our school leaders. But, if you do decide to hire Jess, I can guarantee you
it will be one of the best decisions you make. Hire Jess and expect greatness.
