SEAWATER INTAKE STRUCTURE

ABSTRACT
Seawater intake structures are used to collect water with certain quality and
quantity characteristics which are suitable for the required function, with minimum
impact to the surroundings. To meet these objectives, it is essential that a thorough
assessment of site conditions be conducted. The seawater intake structures are
used in desalination plants, fish farms and refrigeration circuits for industries and
thermal power stations, etc.
In this paper the areas which we use seawater intake structures, factors affecting
selection of particular type of an intake and the different types of intake structures
used are described. Also the ecological impact associated with the intake operation
and its minimising measures are briefly explained .
Key words: Introduction, use, factors affecting selection, types, ecological impact,
conclusion.
