1. Definition
people who were either born in Malaysia or those who immigrated to
Malaysia.
Approximately 90% are descendants from those who migrated from India
in the time of British colonization of Malaysia.
Malaysian Indians are now the third largest ethnic group in Malaysia
after the Chinese and the Malays.
Malaysian Indians occupy 7.3% of the population of Malaysia.

Other minority religions.
Religious sensitivities amongst People of
Indian Origin (PIO) in Malaysia has its roots in
the mother country, India. The expansion of the
Mughal Empire (1556-1707) in North India along
with almost two centuries (1757-1947) of British
rule brought about major changes in religious institutions
in India.
In 2010, there were nearly 2,066,000 people self-identifying as "Indian" who hold Malaysian nationality (including Malaysian-born and
foreign-born people of Indian descent)
