Explaination of
how you met or
did not meet
the specific
practitioner
standard:
When talking
about the
restaurants,
students had the
opportunity to
think about
reasons using
personal
experience of
why the wait
times may be
different.
Before starting
the lesson, we
review previous
vocabulary from
the day before.
We discussed the
terms in the
students own
definition.
Students have an
opportunity to
share and review
vocabulary from
previous lessons.
They are
encouraged to
use their own
definitions and
descriptions of
the words.
Explaination of
how you could
improve on or
incoporate the
specific
standard in the
future (using
some of the
techniques
discussed in
the text):
In the future, I
could get more
perspectives by
maybe asking
about the
students favorite
restaurants
before starting
the lesson.
In the future, I
could also allow
the students to
review the terms
in their groups,
so they can share
with a smaller
audience. They
could also
describe what the
words mean to
them in small
groups.
When students
respond, I said
ok and moved
on to the next
student.
Students are
constantly
reading and
answering
questions related
to the text and
their own
experiences with
restaurants.
By asking
questions, I am
allowing students
to contribute and
make
connections to
By saying, ok
after a student
response, I am
trying to convey
the message that
I respect their
thoughts and
perspectives. At
the same time,
the studetns may
not see it that
way and I will use
different wording.
Many times
studetns are
looking for a
right or wrong
response from
me, but by doing
that, I am not
encouraging
differing
perspectives.
In the lesson, the
students are
encouraged to
think about their
own experiences.
Some of the
questions asked
were very
specific and did
not provide much
space for
different
perspectives.
The lesson
requires students
to think about
two different
restaurants and
their wait times
I can do better
with this. One
thing I have tried
to do in the past
is make sure that
all students feel
that their
response is
important,
whether is it right
or wrong, and I
try to do this by
saying thank
you after each
student response
verses a yes or
no, that is
correct
perspectives that
expand their
understanding of
local and global
issues and create
novel approaches
to solving
problems.

To create more

can incorporate
more of my

interest into the
lesson. We can
change the name
of the restaurants
to create better
experiences.
