A Review by

Fort Peck Summer

Theatre debuted its third
offering of the Season
Friday Night with MY WAY:
A MUSICIAL TRIBUTE
TO FRANK SINATRA.
MY WAY is a musical
revue conceived by David
Grapes and Todd Olson
that features 56 songs made
popular by Ol Blue Eyes
over the course of his 60
year career. The cast features
four talented singers (Chae
Clearwood, Taylor Caprara,
Ross Bridgeman and Jamie
Parnell) as well as a live band
(Luree
Green-Chappell,
Zach Miller, Haley Owens,
Tyson Gerhart).
Under the Direction of
Megan Wiltshire and Andy
Meyers, the singers and their
band sweep the audience to
a bygone era of night clubs
and crooners. The illusion
of the night club is well

If some of these decision makers in Helena have

never been out to Eastern Montana and enjoyed Fort
Peck Lake you couldnt find a better time to visit
than now. Its a lake that boasts a coastline greater than
the coast of California. Its some of the best deer and
elk hunting and walleye fishing youre ever gonna find.
The famed Governors Cup Walleye Tournament was
another complete success with a 200-team field.
On the north end of the lake, youll find the historic
town of Fort Peck. Grab a steak at the Gateway. Catch
a show at the Fort Peck Summer Theatre. Camp at
Kiwanis Park. Visit the Interpretive Center. Pay your
respects to our nations finest at the newly minted
Northeast Montana Veterans Memorial.
But for many Montanans the best way to access
Fort Peck Lake is through the Hell Creek State Park and
Marina at the south side of the lake. Unfortunately, the
current administration under Governor Steve Bullock
is working to take that access away.
In fact, just last fall, Bullocks appointees on the
newly created parks board proposed walking away from
Hell Creek State Park entirely. And you know what their
excuse was?
Money. Thats right, the political appointees in state
government have no problem throwing millions of
dollars at taking cattle ranches out of production, but
then claim that they have to shut down Hell Creek State
Park in Eastern Montana because money?
The reality is, come hell or high water, Montanans
can get the job done and save Hell Creek. We simply
need new, innovative leaders in the governors office
in Helena that are willing to work with the people to
find solutions. For example, administrative costs have
apparently become one of the big burdens with Hell
Creek State Park from the states perspective. Im told
that locals have offered to help FWP manage the site,
offering a significant savings to the State of Montana.
Instead of walking away from Hell Creek, state officials
should be walking to the table with the local community
that has offered to help keep Hell Creek open.

The Womens Resource Center would like to extend a heartfelt

Thank-you to the Glasgow community along with surrounding
communities for donating food, clothing, and household items.
Those items are given to victims of domestic and sexual violence
along with families that are in need. The demand for donated food
and other items remains constant as requests from our valley county
residents seems to grow. Again, the WRC extends a huge Thank
you for all your support, donations and continued efforts to meet the
needs of victims and families here in Valley County.
In addition, the WRC is asking individuals with gardens
and fruit trees to consider donating any extra produce, fruits,
berries to the WRCs food pantry; which is held twice a month
on Fridays. WRC tries to ensure that our food baskets that are
given to our clients have a well balanced diet.
As always WRC truly appreciates all donations we receive.

My Way continued from front

paying tribute to the Chairman of the Board through their

own Sinatra-esque interpretation of many standards that
are familiar not only to the diehard Sinatra fan but also to
those who may be only casually acquainted with his music.
The high-caliber of the vocal performances make
it difficult to isolate few enough standouts to mention
individually, nonetheless, I would be remiss to not
mention a few. Chae Clearwoods rendition of My Funny
Valentine in the top half of the first act is simply breath
taking. Her voice has such a beautiful smoky quality that
effortlessly transitions from light and ethereal to bold and
heart wrenching. Jamie Parnell astounds throughout with
the most faithful Sinatra-esque performances, but stands
out particularly in I Only Have Eyes for You where his rich
and vibrant baritone mesmerizes the audience as it floats
effortlessly through the music. Ross Bridgeman provides
levity throughout the performance but when he takes over
duty on piano during the first act for a swinging version of
Witchcraft, he showcases his true musical talents. Taylor
Caprara shows that this ingnue has vocal chops in spades,
with a particular stand out performance in The Best is Yet
to Come where she channels a bit more of the passion and
jazz styling of the great Sarah Vaughn, who also made this
song popular. This reviewer particularly appreciated the
variety of interpretation that the singers brought to the
material. While all of the singers paid much due respect to
Frank Sinatra, they each brought their own interpretation
to the material.
While the vocal performances were awesome in
their own right, the performance would not be the same
without the live band. Under the direction of Luree GreenChappell, the band pulls nonstop duty ushering the show
from song to song, at one point the music was literally
flying off of their stands. Fort Peck is certainly fortunate
to have access to the talents of Green-Chappell who not
only serves as band director and pianist but also served as
Music Director for the production. Given the fact that the
band and the singers both sound amazing, one can only
deduce that Green-Chappell did one heck of job.
My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra runs
through July 24th with performances on Friday and
Saturday at 7:30 and Sunday at 4:00 PM. This reviewer
was lucky enough to partake in the VIP Onstage Seating
that is being offered during this performance and would
highly recommend that others take advantage of this
experience. The onstage seating is part of the night
club set and further enhances the illusion that you have
stumbled into another era.
