Background

I was born on December 17th, 1965, in Mexico, D. F., Mexico, to Mexican mother and Peruvian
father. I have three younger sisters and one younger brother.
I grew up in multiple cities: Mexico city, Arequipa, and Cordoba. I attended three different
elementary schools. One in each city. I had to learn three different dialects of Spanish. It was
really fun, but above all it made me realize that every place has its own culture and traditions.
In 1983, I moved to Chicago to learn English. I lived there for a year. Now I speak Spanish and
English. I went back to Mexico city to major in Accounting. I graduated in 1988. I worked for
KPMG for three years. It is one of the major accounting firms in the world. I realized how
important it is to speak more than one language. I decided to teach English as a Second
Language to people in my office. Later, I joined a bilingual school where I taught ESL to 6th
graders. I got married in 1987. I have four wonderful children: two boys and two girls. The
oldest has graduated, and is an engineer. The other three are pursuing their majors at UTD. In
1997, I joined Interlingua. It is a language school. I taught students who were 6 years old and
students who were adults. I learned different techniques and strategies to teach languages. In
2008, I moved to Dallas to work as a bilingual teacher for Dallas ISD. My life has been constant
learning and personal growth. In the future, I hope that my experiences help and inspire my
students to make a difference in the life of others.
