MARIA TRAN

Maria Tran is a diverse multi-tasking dynamo of a filmmaker. She writes, produces, directs and acts in
various films but is known for the independent films with strengths in the martial arts action genre.
So far, she has made two movies in China (Fist of the Dragon, Death Mist), one Chinese production in
Sydney (Take Me To The End of the Earth), a movie in Vietnam (Tracer) and an Australian TV series
(Maximum Choppage).
Her humble beginnings were from Western Sydney. After graduating with a Bachelor of Psychology,
she worked amongst the disadvantage and culturally diverse communities across the region in capacities of digital media and filmmaking. She made various short films such as Metro Screen grant "A
Little Dream" and award-winning documentary about a street kid living in poverty in "Happy Dent"
and action Kung Fu comedy movie "Maximum Choppage".
In 2008 she produced and acted in "Downtown Rumble" Kung Fu action micro-series on JTV-ABC
TV. In 2013, she played a lead female assassin in Hollywood legend; Roger Cormans upcoming action
film in China Fist of the Dragon.
In 2011, Maria worked at Screen NSW under the Emerging Producer Placement Scheme.
In 2013 directed/ produced Australias first Vietnamese soapie Change of Our Lives for Cancer
Council. In 2015, Maria based herself in Vietnam, to produce Vietnamese blockbuster Tracer/ Truy
Sat, in which she play female actioneer Phuong Lua and was also responsible for the B Camera unit.
This year, her pitch Fury of the Far East; a supernatural martial arts comedy has been selected to be
made into a proof-of-concept for television and she is commission to write an original screenplay for
a Vietnamese historical epic The Drums of Me Linh due to shoot in mid-2018.
In her spare time, she runs a weekly class called Screen Acting & Fight Essentials for emerging
actors and occasionally teaches at AFTRS via their Open Program, Stage Combat/ Fight Choreography and Filmmaking during the school holidays. Bold, daring, multitalented; she is represents a new
fresh wave of women who not only have great compassion for the world, but know how to do it with
imagination and creative style.
