CHARITY By RACHAEL HOULIHAN CONSTRUCTION has nished on the much-anticipated Peters project charity house and the gavel is set to fall at auction in March. After thousands of hours of donated time and labour, the public will be able to view the four-bedroom property in Toohey Estate, north Warrnambool, from next weekend. Peters Project Foundation director Vicki Jellie said manager of Bryan and Petersen, Andrew Austen, came to see her in August 2013 to discuss a concept his team wanted to initiate building a house that would be auctioned for her cause. Andys passion and the commitment to this task was very apparent in our rst meeting, Ms Jellie said. And I knew then that together with the Bryan and Petersen company and all their contractors and local tradespeople, that
this proposal was going to
happen. After discussions with Fr John Fitzgerald and the St Josephs Catholic Parish nance committee, Ms Jellie said she was thrilled to receive the gift of a block of land in the Toohey Estate on which to build the charity house. We are extremely thankful to all in St Josephs Parish for their generosity and support, Ms Jellie said. We were overwhelmed by the time and dedication that so many individuals and businesses have given to this project. Whether it has been supplying materials, labour and services, our local bank assisting with nance or the cheerful helpers making morning tea for the hard workers on site, this has been a project about community involvement and once again showed the strength of support the south-west region can give to help their own. had worked together, spending their weekends and after-hours to ensure the contemporary house would be one of quality and excellence. The home is on an 800-square-metre block and has 26 squares of living area.
Everyone who has been
involved have all rolled up their sleeves and worked together as a team to make this a reality, she said. Mr Austen said the incredible generosity had been humbling. I am extremely proud to
say that our local tradespeople
and suppliers have contributed to this amazing home. Its an absolute testament to their character and commitment to this community, he said. The proceeds of the auction will go to the Peters Project Foundation and help support
the needs of regional patients
and their families, at the South West Regional Cancer Centre. The home will be open for inspection next weekend from 1-4pm both days and will be auctioned on Saturday, March 28, onsite at 10.30am. rhoulihan@fairfaxmedia.com.au
