A MASSIVE $1 million
donation has lifted Peters
Project halfway towards its
$5 million appeal target for
a south-west cancer care
centre.
Locally-based
philanthropic trusts yesterday
joined forces to give the
appeal a major kick along,
with organisers hoping
the generosity will spur
more support from other
charitable
organisations

and regional councils. Peters

Project founder Vicki Jellie
yesterday celebrated the
donation from the Hilda and
Archie Graham Foundation,
Ern Hartley Foundation,
Gwen and Edna Jones
Foundation, A. L. Lane
Foundation, Ray and Joyce
Uebergang Foundation and
the Vedmore Foundation.
James Tait, speaking on
behalf of the foundations,
said support for Peters
Project was critical.
Weve got help from the
government and we need to

TARGET $5M
show were right behind it,
Mr Tait said.
Its a given, supporting
this project is so important.
Were supporting it in
the hope that it encourages
other big charitable trusts to
support it.
Mr Tait said because of the
urgent need for radiotherapy
services and associated

cancer facilities in the southwest, local trusts had given

Peters Project priority.
With Department of Health
planning for an integrated
cancer centre beginning, Ms
Jellie said the contribution
brought the appeal to $2.5
million.
Its very generous of you
all to band together and its
a great boost for the community, she said.
This will be the major
donation for the whole
campaign.
Ms Jellie said she was

overwhelmed by the generosity and it was hoped the

centre would be operating
by the end of 2015.
Were very excited. This
shows the foundations laid
over the last four-and-a-half
years have given people
condence in what were
doing, she said.
This is massive. Its
fantastic. Were only three
months in since the launch
and were halfway.
The community leadership shown by the trustees
will encourage everyone to

continue to support our cause

by way of personal donations,
fund-raising events and regional business contributions
that are currently happening
and to dig deep and give to a
vital need for our community.
Coming together to do this
will ensure that our target
will be successfully achieved
this current nancial year.
The federal government
has committed $10 million
to the cause and the state
government allocated $10
million in this years budget.
