XCEEDER MICRON
PERFECT PRECISION AT
HIGH-SPEED
Extreme precision and high-speed profile machining of complex components are the
distinctive features which characterise Bretons XCEEDER MICRON range of machining
centres. XCEEDER MICRON satisfies the most demanding requirements of operators in
the aerospace, precision engineering and die-manufacturing industries who want precision
and high-quality products without having to resort to post-machining manual processes or
complex manufacturing processes.
Thanks to an in-depth dynamic structural analysis of machine behaviour during high-speed
operation and of all associated phenomena, Breton has developed and combined in its
XCEEDER MICRON range of machines high-speed machining with maximum machining
precision, making it the ideal investment for 3 and 5-axis continuous machining requirements
for manufacturing precision components.
Thermal stability
Machining precision and quality are further enhanced by the thermal symmetry of the
machine structure, and the thermal stabilising system which stabilises and maintains the
temperature of the ball nuts, bearings and drives at the same temperature of the machine
structure during high-speed machining operations. In fact this thermal stabilising system
makes this machine practically insensitive to distortion caused by thermal expansion and
drift due to continuous high-speed machining operations.
Structural Solutions
The submicron systems for reading axis position (optical lines with a 0.1 m resolution) , the
ground ball screw assemblies with class ISO 1 precision preloaded double ball screw, the highprecision linear recirculating roller guides, the direct drives on the rotary axes combined with
meticulous care and attention to structural detail aimed at limiting geometric tolerances,
with high performing NC software featuring high resolution and data processing capacity, all
allow XCEEDER MICRON to achieve precise positioning and interpolation.

FEM Analisys
A sophisticated finite element method (FEM) enables the dimensioning of the machine
structural parts to satisfy high-speed machining requirements guaranteeing maximum
machine stability, precision and machining quality even when subjected to severe stresses.
10
11
Reliability
The closed structure and drive assemblies mounted on the top part of the machine, located
at a suitable distance from the work area, ensure maximum operator safety and maximum
machining precision and reliability.
Machine configurations
XCEEDER MICRON, thanks to the various possible machine configurations (BASE, RT),
satisfies a multitude of production requirements.
The base model with 3 axes and a fixed table is the ideal solution particularly for die
machining, precision mechanics and machining 2D aeronautical components (i.e. wing ribs
etc.).
The RT model is the most sophisticated and flexible machine in the range with a 5-axis
configuration and rotary tilting table, and is the perfect solution for aerospace components,
sophisticated and complex dies and precision engineering requirements. XCEEDER MICRON
with this machine configuration combines maximum power, electrospindles up to 40 kW, with
maximum machining flexibility.
Automation
A single or multiple pallet system (up to five pallet stations) is available for both models
optimising productivity and production automation.

Thermal-dynamic stability
To ensure maximum machining precision all the electrospindles are thermally stabilised and
a specific software compensates for any thermal expansion or errors which can occur when
machining conditions vary. A liquid tool coolant (at low and high pressure) and compressed
air for cleaning the tool taper flow through the electrospindle.

LATEST GENERATION
TECHNOLOGY
Direct Drive Technology
The innovative dynamic direct drive rotary tilting table, axis C with a rotation speed of
100 rpm and axis A with a rotation speed of 50 rpm, designed and developed by Breton,
substantially increases overall machine performance and dynamics for continuous 5 axis
machining operations. The absence of transmission components, the possibility of visualising
axis position and the thermal stabilising systems for the servomotors which align table
temperature to the temperature of the machine structure, offer high-precision and quality
machining. The amply dimensioned robust cast-iron structure and the power of the direct
drive servomotors allow for handling heavy loads and maximum precision during continuous
machining. Powerful hydraulic brakes mounted on axes A and C ensure workpiece
stability during intensive production cycles.
Component Precision
The linear motion system consists of precision ground recirculating ball screw assemblies
with precision class ISO 1 controlled preloaded double ball nut, amply dimensioned and
precision ground preloaded recirculating roller guides designed to support intensive working
conditions providing the machine with maximum stability and machining precision.
Thermal Stability
A thermal stabilising system, even during continuous and long high-speed machining
operations, stabilises and controls the temperature of the drive assemblies such as the ball
nuts and bearings for each axis maintaining them at the same temperature as the machine
structure.
Digital Technology
Latest generation brushless digital servomotors are utilised for powering the axes increasing
overall system dynamics. This allows the machine at high speeds to follow the NC tool path
with maximum precision.
Machine Longevity
To ensure machine reliability and longevity the drive assemblies and moving parts are
positioned at an adequate and safe distance from the work area therefore distant from dirt,
swarf and contaminations, avoiding any possible hazard that could occur during operation
causing damage or wear.
17
MINIMUM ENVIRONMENTAL
IMPACT
XCEEDER MICRON offers the end user tangible concepts and solutions which are not to
be considered fortuitous, but solutions to tomorrows problems. The closed housing on
XCEEDER MICRON insulates the external workplace and therefore the operator from noise
and dust and fume emission a feature which will be appreciated day after day when operating
the machine. The sliding doors on the housing allow for easy access both from the front and
top of the machine. A large inspection window is conveniently positioned without limiting
access to the machine which at the same time ensures operators safety.

IMPROVING PRODUCTIVITY:
THE CONCEPTS
Compact Design
The XCEEDER MICRON configuration is designed to offer the user an ample working area
although located in a limited factory space, and an excellent choice of machine accessories to
customise production and machining requirements.
21
IMPROVING PRODUCTIVITY:
THE CONCEPTS
In-process inspections
When you require maximum precision machining it is possible to mount a laser probing
system for tool presetting, which includes not only normal presetting functions, but also
verifies tool condition, shape and wear, and a touch probe system with RF data transmission
for acquiring the coordinates and measurements of the workpiece during machining including
complex 3D products or components.
22
SETUP
Workpiece setup is simplified thanks to:
- The possibility of selecting multiple coordinates.
- Automatic coordinate search functions.
- Intelligent functions for automatic input of the workpiece coordinates to the CNC - axis
rotation and translation for machining.
- User friendly tool verification and measurement.
MACHINING OPTIMISATION
The numerical control systems used on XCEEDER MICRON optimise high-speed machining
thanks to specific features:
- Automatic call-up of a part-program for machining and machine parameters optimising
machine dynamics depending on type of machining required.
- Pre-settable intelligent functions for optimising both profiling precision and tool trajectory
speed (Feed Forward, Jerk Control, Active Damping).
- Look Ahead function for a large number of blocks (up to 1024).
- TCPM (Tool Centre Point Management) for monitoring contact between the tool and the
workpiece during continuous 5-axis machining operations.
- The use of various types of interpolation splines (NURBS, BEZIER, POLYNOMIAL) allows for
greater precision when monitoring tool paths generated by the CAM system.
- Drastically reduced loop and speed sampling times.
- Power absorption control function.
- Possibility of incorporating filters and compensations to increase the system pass-band
increasing machine dynamics and performance.
23
USER FRIENDLY
The user friendly interface with unlimited customisation options, the control panel for major
machine functions, and the additional mobile control panel all make XCEEDER MICRON NC
functions simpler and easier to use.
