transformer supplied from an AC voltage source ( 48 Hz to 62

The short -circuit current of the transformer and associated
circuits shall be within the range of 10mA to 25 mA for all
voltage higher than 15 kV. This is required to protect the
equipment and to avoid excessive decomposition of the
insulating liquid at the instant of breakdown.

6 Switching

The primary circuit of the step-up transformer shall be fitted

with a circuit breaker operated by the current resulting from
the breakdown of the sample, and shall, break the voltage
within 10ms.

7 Automation

a) Shall have provision to select different test methods such as

IEC, ASTM, IS, ISO
b) Shall automatically conduct the test as per selected test
method, record six breakdown readings, mean and the standard
deviation
c) shall have provision to set the stirr time and stand by time
between two breakdown measurements
d) shall have the provision to enter the i) Sample ID; ii) Date of
Test; iii) Operators name ; iv) Ambient temperature and
Humidity
e) Shall have the provision to export the result to LIMS and any
other data transfer modes

h)The equipment should have sturdy and reliable stirror for
homogenizing the sample.

Equipment should have inbuilt programs for conducting tests
as per pre-programmed standards ( IEC 60156, ASTM D 1816,
ASTM D 877, AS 1767.2.1 VDE-0370,CSSR RVHA,IRAM 2341, JIS
C2101 ) and should also have the provision for creating custom
made programs.
The volume of test cell should be between 300 ml to 600 ml.
The cell should be made of materials that is electrically
insulating, transparent and chemically inert, e.g. glass, resistant
to all types of insulating liquid ( such as mineral oil, synthetic
ester, natural esters, silicone oils) and the cleaning agents
which may be used.
a) The electrodes shall be made either of brass, or austenitic
stainless steel (316 or 304 grade). They shall be polished and in
shape either spherical 12.5 mm to 13 mm dia as shown in figure
1 of Annexure B.
b) Gap setting gauges of 1/2/2.5/2.54/4/5 mm shall be
supplied along with the equipment for precise setting of the
electrode gap with calibration certificate from an ISO/IEC
17025 accredited laboratory
