Electric Field Against Distance Graph
Electric Field Against Distance Graph
1. The electric field is pointing to the left. The + 2 point charge will experience a force
towards a right when it is at x = 8.0 cm. Thus the kinetic energy of the charge will
increase. However at the same time, it will lose kinetic energy according to the law of
conservation of energy.
We are given electric field against distance graph. Thus in order to find the potential
energy, we can use the area under graph to find out the change in potential. Then
multiply by + 2 charge.
Conclusion: Gain in KE = Loss in GPE
2. At 15cm, the helium nucleus will experience a rightward electric force. However since
it moves from 15cm to 10cm, it will experience an increase in potential energy while a
decrease in kinetic energy (decelerated).
Conclusion: Gain in PE = Loss in KE
