Common Core Standards:
ELACC2W6: With guidance and support from adults, use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers. ELAGSE2W8: Recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question.
Digital Information Fluency:
Using Information Ethically - How will I Ethically Use this Information?
Principles of Inquiry Based Learning:
Authenticity- Focus and connections is on real world situations. Assessments- Students will demonstrate their learning by posting responses to the guiding question on the web 2.0 tool Padlet and post a response on the class bog site. Technology- Students will learn how to use the web 2.0 tool Padlet. Students will also use a class blog site to post reponses. Ethical Citizenship- Ethical citizenship will be taught as we explore the practice of ethical behavior. Students will practice ethical citizenship of social media as we learn and use the blogs.
Essential Guiding Question:
How can I practice ethical behavior? Extend:
The technology allows students to learn outside of their typical school day.
Enhance:
The technology motivates students to start the learning process.
Lesson Plan:
Introduce students to the following vocabulary terms: internet, digital citizenship,
digital tools, ethical use, copyright, and plagiarism. Define and discuss aloud. Introduce the guiding question. Have students think about the question as they view the first three resources in the curated resources (and any others they would like to explore). Scenario questions from the link https://jointhecteam.com/PDFs/copyright_learning_projects/copyright2-3.pdf will be shown on the Smartboard and discussed as a whole. Students will be introduced to the web 2.0 tool Padlet. The teacher will show the students how to use the tool on the Smartboard. Assessment: The students will use Padlet to post two answers to the guiding question (How can I practice ethical behavior?) They will then post a short paragraph response in the class blog site (Kidblog.org) about why they think it is important to give people credit for their work. The students will respond to one classmates blog. Students posts on Padlet will be checked by the teacher as well as the class blog where positive feedback will be given.
