    Maintaining Conversation

    Ask the children to role play the following steps:

    Show a good listening position - make eye contact and keep looking at the person's eyes

    Face the person but stay an arm's length away

    Wait for a pause before talking - don't interrupt

    Ask follow-up questions about the topic being discussed: Who? What? Why? Where? When? How?
    What else?

    Say something that is on topic such as 'I like that too'

    Use 'Guess Who', 'Show and Tell' and other games to get the children involved in asking
    questions or making comments

    2.

    Bait the use of the skill eg use the 'mystery bag' to encourage children to want to ask or tell until
    they can discover what is in the bag

    3.

    Provide rewards to chidren when they listen properly eg verbal praise or tokens
