MONTUBIOS

Montubio is the name given to the

people that lived and continue living
in the coast of Ecuador.
It is said that they are the result of
Ecuadorian mestizaje.
Their main activities are agriculture
and ranching.
They often wear Panama hats and
machetes and have a rural lifestyle.
In the spring of 2001, montubios or
montuvios were recognized by the
government.
