racia Anastasia was locked out of her high school one cold morning in May,
her feet in flip-flops as she argued with school officials. That was the last
time the 18-year-old Long Branch student said she was allowed to attend
Ocean Academy in Bayville. They didnt even suspend me, said Ana-
stasia, though school officials have called her retelling of the circumstances inaccurate, without going into detail. They just went to straight expelling me, she said.
Elsewhere, on a recent day, Shannon Giddens cried as she hugged her 10-year-old son
Jahsheer on the couch in her Barnegat home. Jahsheer has been blocked from going to
school since about April following a fight in the bathroom, Giddens said. I dont think
