Introduction
‘We always wanted to create a sporting
environment which had a village atmosphere
and was an ideal place for families. It had to be
a place where people could relax and escape the
pressures of everyday life. It had to be a place
where we, ourselves, would feel comfortable in.’

Jennifer and Eddy Shah bought the Wiltshire

Golf Club in 2001 and set about transforming the
small 18-hole golf club on 140 acres into a special
place only two hours from the centre of London
and minutes from the motorway.
Within six years, they had bought another

100 acres, turned the complex into a 27-hole
golf facility, opened a large gym and indoor
18-metre pool and added a 58-room hotel. They
also reconstructed the restaurant and function
areas and built the 44 eco-friendly second homes

in 2009 and these new designs, of a much larger

The new extended and re-designed Lakes Course
covers an additional 100 acres and is a challenging

The 6,642 yard, 18 hole, Lakes Course was originally

designed by Peter Allis in 1991 and updated by
William Swann in 2006. It is a par 72 jewel that has
been sculpted out of the typical county terrain.
Rolling, well-textured and welcoming fairways
lead to USGA standard greens that run smooth,
fast and true, but are challengingly contoured
to focus the minds of all levels of golfers. The

The English Golf Union hosted their club
championships on the Lakes Course in
August 2008 which has made the Lakes a true

Richard Lawless is the head PGA Professional
at the Wiltshire Golf & Country Club. He has
over 14 years experience in coaching golf. He
is committed to an ongoing improvement of
his coaching skills and attends various CPD
(Continuous Professional Development) courses.
He has extensive knowledge and experience
of providing Golf Coaching to many different
nationalities in both England and southern
Europe.
Richard worked for Pestana Golf Resorts in

Portugal which at the time was home to
the world renowned David Leadbetter Golf
Academy. Along with many other tour players
David Leadbetter is probably most famous for his
work with Nick Price and Nick Faldo. Whilst there
Richard used the opportunity to learn first-hand
about the DLGA philosophy and techniques.

The Pavilion Restaurant
& Lounge Bar
The Pavilion Restaurant provides an eclectic mix
of food served in elegantly casual surroundings
with views across the golf course. The menu
changes with the seasons and hugely popular
is the Sunday Carvery served between 12-3pm.
All the meat served is sourced from farms in the
UK and wherever possible local fresh produce

The Wiltshire Leisure Village offers exceptional

All this in a top English tourist area which includes

the local towns of Wootton Bassett, Marlborough,
Malmesbury and Cirencester. Also within 40-
minutes are the historic cities of Bath, Bristol,
Swindon and Newbury, all with great shopping.
The Avebury Circle, Barbury Castle, Silbury Hill
and The White Horse are 15-minutes away and
Stonehenge no more than 45-minutes. For those
who love walking or cycling, the Ridgeway runs
between the Leisure Village and Reading, whilst
the Westonbirt Arboretum draws visitors from
all over the world, especially when the autumn
leaves turn. The Cotswolds start at your front

The Wiltshire Leisure Village is the gateway to the

South West. A great place for a second home, a

The Village Today
The existing 44-holiday homes were completed
in 2008 and consisted of the large 4-bedroom
Marlborough houses, and the 3-bedroom
Avebury and Ridgeway houses. 10 of the homes
were retained by the company for rentals. The
remainder are mostly owned by village residents
who use the houses as holiday homes, although
some are occasionally rented out. We believe
this mix creates an atmosphere that is friendly
and in keeping with a village community.
Not all owners are golfers, but all enjoy the

ambience of the village nestling in Wiltshire
countryside, yet with all the amenities of the
Country Club and the town of Wootton Bassett
on their doorstep. The infrastructure of roads
and services have already been laid for the new
Malmesbury, Purton and Bassett houses. The
infrastructure for the new homes is already in
place thereby causing very little disruption to
existing lodge owners.

have access to the club. All leisure and golf

Avebury &
Ridgeway Homes
On offer are beautiful two and three storey lodges
with the latest green credentials in a holiday area
within the beautiful and historic rolling Wiltshire
countryside.
The three and four bedroom holiday homes start

from 1050 sq ft to 1530 sq ft with large living
areas and kitchens and can be purchased fully

The Avebury
The Avebury is named after the famous pre-
historic great stone circles in Wiltshire, looked
on by many as a greater monument than its
neighbouring circle at Stonehenge. It is nearby
many of the Wiltshire White Horse chalk hill
carvings that date from a similar period. Silbury
Hill, near Avebury, was built in 2,500 BC and is
claimed to the burial place of King Sil, the knight
in golden armour.

Ridgeway National Trail, 87 miles of walkway
through an ancient landscape, over rolling open
downland through secluded valleys and woods
that follow the same old Wessex trail used since
prehistoric times by travellers, herdsman and
soldiers.
The Ridgeway is a smaller 3 bedroom lodge (still

over 1010 sq ft) built to the same design as the
Avebury. It also includes an en-suite bathroom to

The Day Space is nearly 20’ by 16’ and there is a
