GENERAL ID: 29127

These instructions describe the main components of the TRR-1 retainer and its main repair processes.
In drilling with extension rods, a hydraulic jaw/TRR-1 is used in the front end of the feed primarily for
the purpose of coupling rods. In this use, special attention should be paid especially on the good
condition of the TRR-1 jaw pieces as they contribute to fast and effortless rod changing.
Sandvik Service is always ready to give instructions and help in all service problems. Your Sandvik
Dealer offers the services of maintenance personnel with up-to-date training, proper and modern
tools and instruments, and the required, original Sandvik spare parts.

SAFETY ID: 29128

Follow the safety instructions and always wear the safety equipment required for the work. Use proper tools.

The maximum working pressure of TRR-1 is 230 bar.

Before starting maintenance or repairs, move away from an area

where you have just been drilling.

Do not work under a device that is held up by hydraulics only.

Use separate mechanical supports during maintenance and repairs.
Beware of rotating machine parts.

Maintenance and repairs should only be done when the rig is

stopped. Make also sure that the rig cannot be started while the
work is in progress.
Keep any flammable material, such as oily rags, etc. far enough
from the working location.

When installing or removing the TRR-1, the buffer and the front centralizer at the front end of the feed
must be removed from the rail.
Installing TRR-1 to TF-feeds
1. Remove the front centralizer assembly (10) by opening the four hex head screws (11).
2. Take the front centralizer assembly (10) off, and remove the rubber buffer.
3. Install the TRR-1 (8) with its mounting frame (9) between the feed rail and the front centralizer
assembly.
4. To connect the hoses of the TRR-1, remove the support (13) under the feed to uncover the hose
connection.
5. Install the mounting screws (11) and tighten them.
6. When you are mounting the TRR-1 for the first time, turn the carriage plate (14) of the intermediate
centralizer by 180, to behind the return wheel.

When the TRR-1 is installed on a TF-feed, hole depth is shortened by 35 mm. By cutting 35 mm off the buffer and the front
guard bar, the original hole depth can be restored.

Adjusting and replacing jaw pieces ID: 29131

5.1.1.

Gripping centre of TRR-1 is off drilling centre ID: 30489

If the stationary jaw piece is incorrectly adjusted or worn, the gripping centre of TRR-1 will be off
the drilling centre, making thread opening difficult.
Adjusting:
Use adjusting shims to position the stationary jaw piece correctly.
Check centering by closing the TRR-1 when an extension sleeve is at the jaws.
5.1.2.

Steel diameter is changed ID: 30490

If the drill steel size is changed from 1 " to 1 ", the adapter plate (7) under the stationary jaw
piece must be removed and mounted to the outside the body, under the mounting screws.
If the drill steel size is changed from 1 " to 1 ", the adapter plate (7) on the outside of the body
must be placed under the stationary jaw piece.
