Job Description Ethernet Principal Engineer

Positions: Ethernet Principal Engineer Platform Planning and Design

Job Responsibilities:
Qualified candidate will be part of a team that will have the following responsibilities:

Investigate and analyze emerging network technologies and architectures related to Ethernet
services virtualization
Work closely with Vendors engineers to select and qualify equipment for deployment in our
network.
Select technology and equipment platforms to enable best in the class Ethernet services both
globally and in India.
Test and analyze emerging network technologies and architectures
Evaluate and qualify technologies, services and equipment platforms to enable best in class
Ethernet services in an International and Metro environment.
Generate Test Plans, Test procedures, and test reports.
Interact with Vendors to resolve equipment issues and maintain/track modification requests.
Support operations in resolving field issues
Work closely with Service engineering to design Ethernet services and CoS/QoS architectures.
Generate guidelines for Ethernet traffic management of EPL/EVPL , ETREE/EVTREE and
ELAN/EVLAN services
Generate guidelines/procedures for commissioning of networks and services.
Work closely with other engineering teams such as IP/MPLS engineering and transmission
engineering to ensure efficient network design.
Work closely with vendors technical/research teams on their next generation technologies, and
drive for synergy with long term technology planning.
The candidate should have the following technical qualifications:

10+ years of experience in network design/architecture of Ethernet and/or IP/MPLS networks


MSEE (EE/CE related to telecommunication technologies). PhD is a plus
Good understanding of Native Ethernet, PBB/PBB-TE, IP, MPLS, and VPLS technologies
including EMS/NMS and OAM technologies.
Understanding of emerging Data Center fabric technologies TRILL/ETRIL, Overlay tunnels
(VXLAN, STT, NVGRE), and ability to contact research on emerging technology trends.
Knowledgeable in traditional telecommunications and data networks including dark fiber, WDM,
SONET/SDH.
Good understanding of various protection mechanisms and protocols, STP/RSTP/MSTP, ERP
(G.8032), ELP (G.8031), LAG/MC-LAG

Experience in QoS design in Ethernet and MPLS networks

Traffic management and optimization - traffic shaping, classification, policing, queuing, scheduling
Good Experience with testing of Packet transport and switching equipment and networks,
including working experience with L1/L2/L3 test equipment (IXIA, SPIRENT, Other).
Writing test plans, test procedures, and test reports
Resolving technical issues and finding solution.
Knowledge of script writing for test automation
Professional attitude, excellent written and verbal skills, good planning and organizational skills
and be able to produce deliverable documentation
Additional Competencies:

Understanding of various routing and signaling protocols: OSPF/OSPF-TE, BGP, RSVP/RSVPTE, LDP, RIP
Understanding of various routing algorithms: Minimum Spanning Tree, Shortest Path Tree
Experience with equipment planning and qualification in a laboratory environment.
Working knowledge or understanding of emerging cloud services
Data center technologies
Understanding server layer and storage technologies (virtualization, VM /storage mobility).
Network reliability/resiliency. Diverse and alternative routing.
Capacity planning
Good analytical skills.
Knowledge in developing simulation tools for telecommunication networks using Discrete Event
Simulation technique
Software programing skills (C++, Visual Basic, Java, etc.)
Experience scripting in Unix shell, PERL, python or ruby
Open stack experience Networking, Neutron is a plus
