Q. My dog gets ear infections each year in the late summer. Do you know what is causing this problem?
A. The fact that your dog gets ear infections at the same time each year is not a coincidence! It is very

likely that your dog is having an allergic reaction to weed pollens that are present in the environment
late in the summer. When an allergic dog contacts the offending pollen, his immune system reacts
by releasing histamines and other chemicals into the skin, causing intense itching. Often the itching
affects several areas of the body, such as feet, legs, armpits and face. Sometimes the only area affected
is the ears. Rubbing at the ears then allows yeast and bacteria (normal residents on the skin of the
ear) to proliferate and cause an infection. The take-away message is that if your dog has recurrent or

seasonal ear infections, know that allergies are a likely underlying cause. Recently, the UW-Madison
Veterinary School studied dogs that had recurrent yeast ear infections and found that 44% had allergies to grass pollen, and 89%
had allergies to tree pollen. Blood or intra-dermal skin tests are helpful in determining the source of your dogs allergies. Allergy
injections and/or oral medications can help reduce allergic itching. Ear cleaners and medications alone will not solve a recurrent
ear problem. Your veterinarian can help you sort through your dogs ear and allergy issues and provide your pet with comfort.
new teeth until around 30 months. Once a tooth is visible in the mouth, daily hygiene by a parent
is necessary. All teeth are susceptible to decay and disease, even baby teeth. The two greatest risk
factors are a sugary or high carb diet and lack of daily brushing. Infants teeth can be cleaned daily
by using a wet wash-cloth or thimble brush to gently wipe off plaque. By age 2, a toddler-sized
soft bristle toothbrush should be used with a thin smear of fluoride toothpaste. By age 5, use just a
rice-sized amount of paste on the brush and always encourage your child to spit out all paste after

brushing. Remember that children cannot reliably brush teeth themselves until 6-8 years of age
and even then need to be closely supervised. Parents should plan on doing follow up brushing until age 7-8. Children are
notorious for believing that tasting toothpaste is just as good as brushing. The most commonly missed spot in the mouth for
brushing is along the gum line.
Every child should see the dentist by age 1 for an exam and decay risk assessment. This is a recent
recommendation due to increased decay in children under 5. Inquire if your dentist is comfortable
seeing young children. Children are fun and unique and should be treated that way. Good Luck!.

event is the marathon, a 26.2 mile endurance contest. A marathon can teach us much
about life and it certainly has lessons for investors:
For starters, marathoners know they have far to go before their race is done, so they visualize
the finish line. And successful investors know that investing is a lifetime endeavor, and that
they must picture their end results such as a comfortable retirement to keep themselves
motivated. Also, marathoners must pace themselves diligently. As an investor, you, too, should
rely on pacing. You cant rush your investments performance instead, follow a long-term

fall, they get up and continue running. As an investor, you will also face challenges, such as
periods of market instability, but if you keep your focus, and stay invested in all markets up,
down and sideways you can help yourself move toward your goals. When you invest, you can
learn a lot from Olympic marathoners so put this knowledge to good use.

tissue healing and repair, and improve mobility while protecting the injured joint during the healing
process. Infrared light, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, myofascial release, lymphatic drainage

profession - 20% are great and the others are just ok (or some may be terrible). How do you choose? Its best if you
if you actually interview your agent. Ask an agent how much experience they have and how many similar homes in
the area they have sold. You want an agent that is moving a decent number of properties. You probably dont want
your friend who just got a license and is just figuring things out, especially if the market is as hot as this one! If
you are talking to a really big name agent who is selling hundreds of houses, youll want to ask if they are the one
who is personally going to help you, or if you will be deferred to someone on their team that may not have as much
experience. Ask agents about their marketing plan. These days your property should have professional photography
and be plastered all over the internet. Ask about the agents availability and communication. Ive heard horror stories
of agents not responding to people for days or even weeks. Lastly, make sure the agent is listening to your needs and
understands what your situation is. Every buyer and seller is different and may have a different want or need. Who
you choose to help you can have a significant impact on your experience buying or selling a home.

Q. You are in a motor vehicle accident, its not your fault, and you contact an attorney, what do you say?
A. You contact a personal injury lawyer because you were in a motor vehicle accident. You are confident that
the other driver was at fault. First, identify yourself and state that you have been in a motor vehicle accident and are
looking for representation to protect your rights. Be prepared. Think about what happened and give a brief summary
to the legal assistant or to the paralegal so they can relay this information to the attorney. Set up a time to speak to the
attorney or to meet in person. Some information that is important for them to know, includes the date of your incident,
the location and whether you have auto insurance. Be ready to give your version of events. If you can obtain the police
accident report then please do, as the information in the report on the other driver and witnesses will be helpful. Most
attorneys will contact you as soon as they can to discuss your accident. Be ready. Find the declarations pages of your

auto insurance and take photographs: vehicle, location, your injuries. Keep the ER discharge notes, related bills and also

keep any doctors work release forms and your pay stubs to support any claim for wage loss. Having this paperwork
helps to identify your matter to the lawyer. Remember to discuss any concerns that you have and have the lawyer identify their action plan. Finally,
personal injury claims take time while you recover and receive treatment. So be patient and know that the process will be set up for you to progress to
negotiate a personal injury settlement.
