3) Hazards Identification
Main hazard: Corrosive to skin, eyes and respiratory tract. Toxic fumes in fire and with acids
Flammability: Not flammable
Chemical hazard: No data available
Biological hazard: No data available
Reproductive hazard: No data available
Eye effects eyes: Contact may cause mild eye irritation including stinging, watering and redness.
Health effects - skin: Contact may cause mild irritation including redness and a burning sensation. No
harmful effects from skin absorption have been reported

Health effects - ingestion: Low degree of toxicity by ingestion

Health effects - inhalation: No information available. Studies by other exposure routes suggest a low
degree of hazard by inhalation

4) First-aid Measures
Product in eye: Flush eyes with water for 15 minutes. Check for and remove any contact lenses
Product on skin: Immediately remove contaminated clothing, including shoes. Flush body with
plenty of water for at least 15 minutes then wash with soap and water. Wash clothes and shoes before
re-use.

Product ingested: Immediately drink large amounts of water. Do NOT induce vomiting unless
directed to do so by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
Loosen tight clothing such as collar, tie, belt or waistband. Seek medical attention.

Product inhaled: Remove from contaminated area. Rest in half right position. If not breathing, give
artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Seek medical attention.

5) Fire-fighting Measures
Extinguishing media: Non-flammable. Can decompose violently upon heating. Extinguish with
fog/foam/dry agent. Cool containers that are exposed to flames with water from the side until well
after the fire is out. Thus use extinguishing media suitable for type of surrounding fire.
Special fire-fighting precaution: In the event of a fire, avoid inhaling fumes from exposed fertilizer
products use water to put out the fire and obtain medical attention for persons exposed to the fumes.

6) Accidental Release Measures

Material Safety Data Sheet
Personal precautions: Wear respiratory equipment to avoid breathing dust.
Small spills: Carefully shovel material into dry container. Remove from site.
Large spills: Use same procedure as above. Contact proper local, provincial (state), or national regulatory
agency (ies) to ascertain proper disposal techniques and procedures. Wear respiratory equipment to avoid
breathing dust.

Environmental precautions and clean-up methods: Use shovel to put the material into well labelled
and convenient waste disposal container.

7) Handling and Storage

Handling: - Do not ingest. Do not breathe dust. If ingested, seek medical advice immediately and
show the container or the label. Avoid creating dust when handling and avoid all possible sources of
ignition (spark or flames).

Storage precautions: Store in a cool, dry, ventilated area. Isolate from incompatible substances,
particularly alkaline materials, as ammonia gas will be released
Packaging materials: Use original container.

8) Exposure Control/Personal Protection

Occupational exposure limits: Exposure values at the TWA (Time weighted Average) means the
average airborne concentration of a particular substance when calculated over a normal 8 hour
working day for a 5 day working week; thus the time weighted average has not been established.

Engineering control measures: If current ventilation practices are not adequate additional ventilation
or exhaust systems may be required

Hygiene measures: Wash hands after handling compounds and before eating, smoking, using
lavatory and at the end of the day.

Personal protection - respiratory: A NIOSH approved air purifying respirator with a type 95 (R or
P) particulate filter may be used under conditions where airborne concentrations high. Protection provided
by air purifying respirators is limited (see manufacturer's respirator selection guide). Use a positive
pressure air supplied respirator if there is potential for uncontrolled release, exposure levels are unknown
or any other circumstances where air purifying respirators may not provide adequate protection. A
respiratory protection program that meets OSHA's 29 CFR 1910.134 and ANSI Z88.2 requirements must
be followed if workplace conditions warrant a respirator.

Personal protection - hand: Wear chemical resistant PVC or Nitrile gloves

Personal protection - eye: Approved eye protection to safeguard against potential eye contact,
irritation, or injury is recommended.

Personal protection - skin: Wear cotton overalls and washable cotton hat. Wear boots.

Material Safety Data Sheet
Other protection: A source of clean water should be available in the work area for flushing eyes and
skin. Impervious clothing should be worn as needed

9) Physical and Chemical Properties

Appearance: May vary from white to dark grey-brown granular, prilled or chipped material.
Odour: Slight ammonia
Boiling point: Not applicable
Melting point: Decomposes at 190 C before melting
Flash point: Not applicable
Flammability: LEL/UEL Not applicable
Auto flammability: Not applicable
Explosive properties: Not applicable
Vapour pressure: Not applicable
10) Stability and Reactivity
Stability: Stable under recommended storage and handling conditions. Has a high resistance to
detonation

Incompatible materials: Avoid magnesium and strong oxidizing agents

Hazardous reaction: Keep away from strong oxidizers and strong reducers which may
cause nitration (Keep away from strong bases and acids).
Hazardous decomposition products: On exposure to intense heat the material may yield
ammonia, chlorine, and Sublimated ammonium chloride fumes (smoke), oxides of nitrogen.
Conditions to be avoided: prevent from heating, do not subject to combustion. Under the influence
of external heat sources at over 1000, ammonium phosphate and urea, included in the fertilizer, are
decomposed with emitting of ammonia gas phase. The product is hygroscopic, absorbs atmospheric
moisture from air.

11) Toxicological Information

Inhalation: High dust concentration of air-borne material may cause irritation to the nose
and upper respiratory tract. Symptoms may include coughing and sore throat.

Material Safety Data Sheet
Skin: Prolonged contact may cause some irritation, including redness and itching. No
harmful effects from skin absorption have been recorded.
Eye: May cause irritation, redness and pain following contact.
Swallowed: Presents little toxicity, unless large amounts are ingested. Large amounts give
rise to gastrointestinal irritation, with symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea,
irregular heart beat and hypertension.
