Algebra
We work with variable in the algebraic
equations
That variable which solves the equation is
called root of equation.
2x+5 is a algebraic expression
2x+5=5 is a algebraic equation.

Types of Algebraic equations

1. Identity equations
Def. An equation which is true for all
variables is called identity equation.
e.g. 3x + 4=(6x + 12)/2

2. Conditional equation
The equation which became true only for
limited numbers values of variables is called
conditioned equations.
e.g.

3.

x +3=5

False equations

is an equation which can never true i.e. no

values of variable which make the two sides
of equation equals.

e.g.

x= x + 5

*that equation can never ever be solved.

Algebraic Expressions

The mathematical expression which is in term

of one or more variables is called algebraic
expression.

Algebraic Equations
Equation that states the equality of two
algebraic expressions is called algebraic
equations.

The roots of Equations

The numbers and values which make the

equations true are called roots of equations
E.g. 3x 10=22-5x
1
Now put x=4 in eq. (1)
3(4) 10= 22 5(4)
12-10=22-20
2=2
Hence 4 is root of equations
Roots may be difference for different
equations.
Types of equation by degree

Linear equations
The equation in which power of variable
involved is one is called linear equation e.g. 2x
3=0

Quadratic equations
The equation which power of variable is 2 is
called quadratic equation. E.g. 2 x +3 x+ 2+0
2

Polynomial equation
The equation in which the power of variable
involve is more the two is called polynomial
equation.
x=

b b24 ac
2a
